"The Man from Earth" is an offering available on TUBI and not NETFLIX. Also, there are two versions, the 2007 version is thought provoking I think. The other, with all the kids, isn't.

I've just finished watching "Prescription For Love" on YouTube: it is a brilliant movie! It has twists and turns and is easy to watch. I'd say young people can watch it. It isn't graphic or violent and is fairly light-hearted in that regard.

I've decided to preorder the newest Dune movie when it pops up for sale, and watch both movies when it arrives (probably on a weekend). The newest one is just too long to be plunked down in theatre seats, in my opinion!
I'm on Season 10 for Call the Midwife and just got Babylon 5 (whole series). Good watching ahead!

Why are films getting so long?
3 hours? WTF
What was wrong with the old 1 hour 30 - 40 minutes standard?
Like books! Look how thick all the classics are? Nowadays if a book is not the size of an encyclopedia it isn't worth reading.
I honestly kind of want to watch The Chosen for the costuming and the setting, but I am a little nervous that it's not going to be accurate to biblical scripture and historical data (just as important in understanding biblical canon). I asked my friend whose clergy, but he hasn't seen nor read any reviews on it. He tries not to watch any movies or shows about Jesus because he's a big stickler for accuracy. Just as he is with military movies due to his serving in the military for years.
I just want a Jesus show that is actually accurate and not ridden down with bullshit that takes into account both biblical scripture and the historical data of the area, people, customs, etc. With the historical data taking prevalence in cases of contradiction.
Matthew 25:40, NRSV said:
And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.

Surely, nobody expect accuracy from a story 2000 years ago, absolutely marmalised by re-authoring since then.
a_muppet That wasn't what I meant by historical data. There was a reason why I specified this separately.
I want a story that is accurate to anthropology, sociology, and local customs for the time. You know, actual archeological evidence and not the same whitewashed crap.

There was a tv prog like that set in Glasgow in the late 70's. They never used the name Jesus as it was of a glaswegian messiah. The dialect was very local, as were the circumstances, and when the authorities decided he had to go, rather than him be tried and crucified, he was just vanished.
Apparently the church uptake in Scotland jumped the following few months.

As a historical document, the bible is just not.
I suspect that they could work their way backward to get more accurate but I further suspect that various religious groups would strongly object as their foundations may be, in reality, on very shaky ground as their teachings will likely be based on more recent interpretations of ancient text which will have bias and translation errors. Not to forget that places like the Vatican archives have documents which are not readily accessible to the general population.

I find it fascinating that the religious hierarchy is just the same as the political hierarchy. You would expect it to be different, very different.

I know what you mean. I am kinda put off when I see historical figures wearing modern synthetic fabric representations of ancient clothing, for instance.
It's extremly difficult to get modern things to look right. They just don't fall right on the body. The same goes with people as body shapes and looks have changed radically in recent times.

That’s why historical accuracy is important as it’ll allow for the accuracy of cultural and ethnic groups, customs, and everything else. If someone gets mad at actual archeological evidence or actual anthropological research that’s just dumb.

You could argue forever about the bible: it is based on reality? How does it apply today? It'd take forever too to list all the questions. There is just no point discussing the bible. I can't stop anyone, but I won't get involved.
