My husband and I saw the movie “The Sound of Freedom” yesterday”. The theater was sold-out.
Tragically, real life “open borders, non-policing and catch and release” policies have enriched criminal cartels immensely making America itself the largest drop-off for child sex traffickers.
The movie is worth viewing. And is well acted by the entire cast.
My favorite line; “when God tells you what to do, you don’t hesitate”.
I had Barbies when I was young. I never found her to be highly sexualized but I didn't even know what that meant when I played with her. I was a little girl with zero friends and Barbies were my companions. I had no legit knowledge of sexual things or any notions of the idea that Barbie was perfect. She was just a doll. Frankly when I take a look at the people out in our world today...Barbie is far from being a bad role model. At least she's not a drugged up homeless drunk on a park bench. Or a gang banger running around the Dreamhouse stabbing people. Or making child porn with the babies. She seems pretty normal in comparison. Probably one of the few clean things in life. Barbie was designed back in a time when things weren't like they are now. Here's a little historical reading if you're interested. Also with the new full figured Barbies I would say they are trying to keep her in touch with today's world.

Ok so shes none of those things but what did she really do for girls, what message did she give? *If you want to be liked and popular you have to look like me* Little wonder that so many younger and younger girls have body image issues , not all because of barbie but she didnt help. And if youre not part of the answer then you are part of the problem.
Of course when Body shop challanged that image they were slapped with a cease and disist order because mattel was scared of the damage it would cause Barbie.
Disney finally gave the attraction the proper film representative it deserves.
I really enjoy the ride but haven't given much thought about seeing the movie. From what is being reported box office resukts aren't as good as expected.

I was probably 7 the last time I enjoyed a disney film. I used to enjoy the older ones, when I watched them with my kids. But that is about that.

Relying on box office numbers to determine the quality of a film is asinine. Box office numbers only focus on the economics. They have nothing to do with the films itself. The numbers are likely low because Barbie and Oppenheimer top the charts. Not sure why people still equate box office numbers with film quality.
And critic reviews are becoming less and less worth their weight in gold, especially when AI will likely be replacing them as they will writers.

I'm not commenting on the quality of the film, just that the numbers aren't what they expected.

I am not sure why the number of people wanting to watch a film is not positively indicative? To dismiss numbers as a measure could be pure snobbery.
I can't see a large flaw in the argument that a lot of people enjoying a film makes it a good film.

How else would you measure it?
A must say it depends on whether you like that genre of film. 75% of the planet could tell me that Barbie is a great film I still wouldn't want to watch it because I know that is not my kind of entertainment. In the recent past there have been several blockbuster mega movies that I've managed to watch for 20 minutes before giving up in total despair and boredom. On the other hand there have been a few not even rated films which because of the interesting storyline or quirky characters I've found wonderful and would watch again so as always it's a matter of taste.

Indeed!
ALL art forms are immeasurable for quality. It is about opinions, and to dismiss other's opinions, is just plain wrong for me.

I remember, some years back now. We went to the cinema to watch a particular film and found that showing had ended the day before. We still felt like watching something so we saw "Catch Me If You Can", which was showing. It was not a film which we would have chosen to visit and see but was enjoyable to all, and I have watched it several times on TV since.
I'm thinking of seeing The Blue Beetle, partly because I'd never heard of such a superhero! Something new! Also, I want to get out more with friends, and that's one way to do it.
Meanwhile, at home there has been a bit of Star Wars (Bad Batch while I wait for Ahsoka) and, of course, Star Trek. Still working through bonus material with The Two Towers, and then I'll finish up the Lord of the Rings trilogy set, though that's slowly done as I take time for another show or movie here and there. No rush because I own the LOTR set!
I bought my brother a VHS tape collection of LOTR: he didn't bother watching them and they were left - un-watched - at the house. I think they were thrown away a few years ago.

I don't bother giving people films anymore.
No, they are a bit 'two a penny' these days. There are even a few in the book exchange I go to.
