Strange New Worlds for my Star Trek day of the week! The boys will likely want to see last week's episode this afternoon, then there'll be a new one for me tonight!
We watched the first 5 episodes of The Witcher season 3... it will be the last season with the current actor as Geralt... can't believe they will be replacing him. It's going to make it weird to watch with a whole new main character.. They really messed up by not trying harder to keep him.
I found the documentary, "Tim's Vermeer” really quite entertaining. (Hulu presentation) “Johannes Vermeer”, was a 17th century Dutch painter known for his painting’s minute detail.
Anyway, Tim Jenison, modern day inventor suggests Vermeer may have used a combination of optical lenses and mirrors to produce his paintings' intricate details.
The Tim Jensison documentary explores the relationship between science and art. Tim Jensison is not an artist but over 4 or 5 months he produced a replica of Vermeer’s painting, “The Music Lesson”.
I haven’t read any reviews but I found the documentary quite compelling. Whether using science (optics) to paint, replicate essentially a “photographic image” takes away from art, I’m not sure.

I watched the latest series of "Black Mirror", the sixth I think...NETFLIX.
I'm somewhat disappointed.
"Joan is Awful" is the best episode. Followed by "Demon 79" if I remember correctly, good soundtrack.
But werewolves? I mean don't try and copy, "American Werewolf in London". I loved the gratuitous violence in the closing scenes. Horror needs humor to work.

“Unknown” is a new NETFLIX documentary about AI. It is only one episode and perhaps a bit simple minded due to brevity, but it is worth watching. The premise is, what can be used for good can be used for bad too.
I was particularly intrigued by using AI robotics to create “swarms”. Birds and bees swarm, each individual may know the general direction of travel but learn midair from one another also. A similar (group minded) drone swarm would certainly change the battlefield and war in general, especially if a drone was able to choose to “kill” without human permission.
I didn't have time for a whole movie for my Sunday night viewing, but I started Shazam. Really fun so far, though the language keeps it in the adult category in this household. Maybe in five years, we can all watch and discuss it! Wonder if the sequel is streaming yet... This one was on our scifi channel.
I also watched an old movie last night with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. Good, except for a bit of objectifying women, and the writers taking out a couple characters I liked with a tragic situation.
Although I still have a Barbie doll, which I don't play with BTW, I will not be seeing the movie even though it looks like a hit with over 133 million in the first weekend.
Rather you than me. I saw a clip on bbc this morning ...its the candy floss stuff of nightmares. Just that sickly stupid voice made me want to throw up...

I know what you mean I won't be watching it at the movies, and. although I love children, I'm glad I that it will be easy to avoid taking a daughter to see it. When it comes on the TV though I may attempt to watch. When I am in the right frame of mind I do follow along and mimic the "sickly stupid voice" in these type of films - at least for a short while

I've heard that this is a movie about female empowerment. Apparently it shows girls that they can have it all.
Sorry to sound like a broken record but we all know that that is a lie. There are 24 hours in a day, if you work eight hours, sleep eight hours then there are not enough hours left to be the perfect mother, the perfect wife, the perfect lover and have the perfect lifestyle. Therefore having it all is not possible, what is possible is to possess these things ( job house, children etc) and then farm out the responsibility to others.
Quite apart from that, Barbie is a highly sexualized, highly body modified idea of what a woman should look like and it's a bad role model for girls.

It almost sounds like "The Stepford Wives" rise again in a modern 'plasticky' format
