Jen, will you use the glass mending service? it's a temporary solution, but relatively long term and a much cheaper option.
It's sorted now, and was exchanged so not cheap even though the insurance covered the main cost. No, in this case it was not possible for them to fix it. What started as an impact which could have been fixed developed into a large crack from the bottom to about a couple of inches below the top of the windscreen before I got home. A secondary large crack also had got to about the middle of the screen too so, at least for the repairers here, it needed replacing. It was frustrating as I had a similar one with my last car but in that case the screen was repaired before such cracks appeared.
Thank you for the suggestion. It would have been nice to have taken it up
I totally understand it, I know many people in CA contact the junkyard and very often they could come up with a very good replacement at a great price too.

Windshields don't last very long here. It's amazing how quickly those cracks grow! Most of the repair places will fix cracks shorter than six inches. Once, I was looking in my side mirror while merging into traffic, and I heard something hit the windshield. I didn't even have to turn my head, just moved eyes to look at the windshield...the crack was already over 6 inches long. GRRRRR! That windshield was less than six months old!

I have noticed that here in the UK the old 'loose chippings' warning signs have now been changed to 'skid risk' for newly resurfaced roads even though the skid risk is very minor for a new grippy surface if done properly. Call me cynical but it seems a getout for the council to avoid being hit with liability for broken screens. These days they often resurface the road and don't go back and sweep up the excess so you get clattering in the wheelwells and likely risk of chips for months.

A friend of mine was off to Greece on holiday and said she would be renting a car.. I remebered something Id heard and told her make sure you get puncture cover..
When she got back she called me.. How did you know about the puncture cover she said. It turns out that rental cars often have that as an option but its not standard she explained the road from her hotel was tramced for about a mile then it suddenly turned into a sort of rough gravel road and within 10 minutes they had a puncture. That week they got two more all from these roads full of sharp gravel. She said if she hadnt had the warning about the insurence cover it would have cost an absolute bomb in recovery costs.
Hopefully I will get to talk to mum tomorrow. I dont think I will be able to during Christmas because my brother and his GF are at mums house so between them they would ruin any chat we hoped to have.
I thought I had lost Andrea's main present this morning. I knew it was in the house, but I was worried that I had left it in a 'sensible easy to find spot'.
Now that the holidays have come and gone and all the planning and celebrating are done maybe we can get back to what our normal routines have been. Plans for the weekend? I'm wide open this weekend and will do whatever moves me.
It's back to my usual shopping on Sunday. Today I was hoping to sort a few things in the garden. It was raining earlier though and it still looks rather damp outside.

Good for you with your get up and go. I have the urge to sit around undressed today. It looks yechy outside.

Looking out I see the rain has come on again so the garden is out. I haven't dressed for the day yet either but have had breakfast. I have one or two things to do inside so will get on soon lol

I was just about to go and get dressed, but OBVIOUSLY, I had to check out your response, and now I better get a coffee, and see if you respond to this too.

I am working on my mathematics. I do wish I were faster with numbers: I'm not slow but I'm not mega-fast, either. I just need to know what I'm doing with numbers.

I usually like coffee at 11:00 or therabouts. It may well work out that I get around to getting dressed than have coffee straight after

Don't worry too much about speed Candy, just accuracy and knowledge. I was worried similarly, over the years. I remember once going to a selection test for a course I wanted to go on. The previous candidate had failed the sixty mental arithmetic questions in a few minutes and was told he had failed so was not accepted. I did it and failed, because I was so slow. I thought 'this is it - The end', but think I was accurate though as they asked me to return in a couple of days and take it again. That time I passed but it was still a close run thing. The actual course was really a walkthrough in comparison. I am slow but usually get there. You will too!
