He wanted to fight one in the water with just a knife. He did say it wouldn't be too big. Just a few feet. I just hoped that it's mum was just along a bit on the bank...
If the numbers need controlling that's ok. In Scotland they have the same problem with deer. No natural predators, but they are talking about re-introducing wolves.
We are getting quite a few of them here too. I cannot see the locals going for wolves though

In yorkshire we farm them. There is a farm just a few miles down the road.
This is my backyard every morning. We have about 5 to 12 show up all the time. Please forgive the low quality, taken from inside through the window and screens.

You prompted me as, although I know we have an ostritch farm locally, I wasn't aware of any managed deer except on some of the country estates. I had a look and found that they are farmed not too far from me in Lincolnshire too.

It looks strange seeing them in a herd, in a fenced off field.

I have never seen them in my backyard. The most we have had was rabbits grazing on the lawn but that's before we got an upsurege in domestic cats locally. Early one morning when driving through the village I did see one of the small Muntjac deer emerge from someone's garden though so they are around. Deer have been seen in the outskirts of Lincoln city itself and one of the wooded parks there have them, as well as many other animals you may not expect, like lizards, grass snakes and adders and invasive terrapins.
Besides the deer I get raccoons, armadillos, alligators, some bobcats, and an occasional wild boar. Not to mention the birds, bald eagles, osprey, various hawks, owls and many different shorebirds like herons, egrets, stocks and also cranes.

LOL @ invasive terrapins. I am seeing them coming over the hills in battle formation.

I don't think we get many animals in my garden, but I have seen hedgehogs, newts, snakes, frogs and squirrels in my woods.

It would be some fight if they all turned up at the same time
I get lots of different types of bird due to my neighbour feeding them. It's mostly our normal garden birds although I have seen seagulls and game birds and, when next door had a pond, a heron. Occasionally a hawk but, as the garden is somewhat enclosed, the bigger or wilder birds don't usually come in. They often fly around above though.
With mammals it is things like hedgehogs, mice and the occasional rat. The rabbits I saw have not been around for a while although they are in the fields close by.
Amphibians like newts, Frogs and Toads sometimes come and stay awhile as well. I would not be surprised if we have had grass snakes, at least, as I have seen then in the field around a couple of hundred years away and there would be plenty of food. I have not seen any though.

I didn't mention the turtles which we have multiple kinds of, box, snappers and soft shelled. Also geckos and all kinds of frogs.
