This is my dog, Sugar the dalmation. She is actually a dolly [dalmation plus collie]
She is not usually all that fussy on dogs, but this is her bf Chester. They really love each other. We just have to mention his name and she is up at the window, just the same as if we said 'walk'.

I still have one of my kitties, she is now 18 years old. She has lost a lot of weight over the last year so i don't really think she will be with us too much longer but I hope I am wrong. She still eats a lot and is still quite active. Our vet knows her situation and we are following everything he tells us to do.
Karen, I am in a similar situation with my 2 doggies. They are around that age as well. They are still fairly active and doing okay, eating and everything still. The vets consider them miracle dogs!
Although, one has entered heart failure, and on average dogs in heart failure might not live much more than 2 years (could be less could be a bit more). Before that she also injured her eye and is entirely blind in one and has a cataract taking over her sight in the other.
Our other dog has heart issues and cataracts as well, but she is not as impaired visually. They are both on heart medications, though, so we have been prolonging their life.
I just like to think how much joy they have given us over the years and I know when that days comes I will be totally heart broken. So for now i cherish every moment that she is with me.
Its been four years since we lost Benny but we were lucky, we got to share 14 of his 15 years on this earth.. He was grumpy stubborn he had gas like biological warfare and he did everything in his own way.. But he was lovely and charming and quirky and happy..
Although Murphy and George fill our lives with joy every day we still miss our Benny grump... 19-05-2001-10-06-2016
Sorry, I can't watch that. I can't bear sad dog stories.
Not sad , a celebration 14 years of walks and games and playing king of the castle on my horribly expensive chesterfield, 14 years of love a very good reason to celebrate..

my kitty is now 18 years old but she is still active. The vets said to watch her closely because she doesn't have long to live and that was 6 months ago. She is doing better now and then. I need to take some new pics of her.
Our doggies are near the age of your kitty. Both of them are entering heart failure now, so they might only have 1-3 years max left based on the typical life expectancy with heart failure. They are already older than most dogs live to, so they are called miracle dogs.

Sorry to hear about that Karen, I think I know how you feel.
My niece Elly has a three year old Maya and my niece Ally has a 12 year old Pineapple. Elly works in Santa Monica and Ally is in New York. The dogs stay with their parents.
This past weekend, Elly took Maya to Santa Monica with her, her mother complained how she missed Maya, I give Elly a few weeks, Maya will be back to her mom soon. I was at my other sister's place for dinner on Sunday and found out Pineapple was in the hospital. Ally was constantly on the phone with the vet, they did not let her see Pineapple because of COVID-19, Pineapple has stomach problem and heart problem and might need surgery. Ally was blaming her mother for not taking care of her dog, she wants to take the dog to NY with her. My sister will not let her, all hell broke loose during dinner....
A few years ago, a friend of my ex gave my son a dog, Tiki. My son knew he could not take care of the dog so he did not take it but whenever he is home in CA, Tiki comes stay with him, I think that's sweet. My stepson just got a dog too, Coco. I think I have enough dogs to hang out with because both of my sisters take the dogs with them everywhere they go.
I've been really unwell today I think it's a migraine thats been brewing since the weekend so straight back to bed in a darkened room and Dr George has been keeping care of me. he has very unorthodox methods of doctoring they include standing on the bed and putting his nose to my mouth just to make sure I'm breathing then to make sure I'm probably asleep he sniffs my eyes he got a shock when I open one, he jumped like a scalded cat.
To ensure that I didn't get up too soon he laid on my arm and to check my reactions he bit my fingers from time to time just to make sure I was still there.
I'm recovering from the migraine but I think it might take a little bit longer before I am fully recovered from the attention of Dr George.
George... Out yesterday he made a sudden dive into a hedge and grabbed a mouthful of something, 'leave it' didnt work, it was in his mouth and possession is 9/10th of the law according to him. So I had to jam my thumb into his mouth and scoop out the offending article.. Lucky for me it was just half a bread roll someone had discarded.
I told him 'bad boy' and walked on, but as I rounded to corner two little boys aged about 6 or 7 caught me up , Mrs , Mrs? why was you mean to your doggy? said one, and the other added 'we saw you being mean back there' So I explained I wasnt really being mean but I dont want George to eat things from the floor because, its dirty it could make him sick or worse it might be something thats poison for dogs...
'well' said one of them 'our dog eats cat poo and gets sick and mum says swear words'
I had to stifle a chuckle.. We had a quick chat about things that are very bad for dogs and then parted but I was impressed that two kids of that age were happy to challenge an adult about an animal welfare issue.

100% behind you Cassie. Here we have stories of people poisoning dogs by leaving snacks like that available for them. I don't know if it is true.
Moving onto a lighter moment. My dog was youngish, and she had started her meal without permission. I quite firmly told her off, expecting her to learn for the future, but no. She started to get it out of her mouth, she can't spit so she was flicking her jaw and blowing at it, making these "Heh, heh, heh" sounds. She did manage to get it out, but it wasn't easy.
It really was so funny. We felt really sorry for her, but really impressed at how well behaved she wanted to be.
