I wonder how well it will work out. I hope it will be as positive as the experiment!
I can see it sort of working to make people get at least a part time job... because then they won't be as stressed and depressed about having no money! Not everyone, of course... but how you feel about yourself plays a huge role in motivation. Sometimes you lose that when everything isn't going well for you.
Not everyone can afford to gain skills and experience for free, and I think you know we can't trust companies to pay enough money for someone to live on if they don't have to. We already have an issue with companies going overseas to exploit desperate people for as little pay as they can get by with.
The cost of living has gone up but the wage hasn't. Many people are not making enough money for their work as it is. Should we reduce it even more?

Companies compete for skilled people and higher pay reflects this competition. Hiking the minimum wage simply drives companies that employ low or no-skill people to utilize automation reducing job opportunities.

I think the modern idea IS to automate low skill duties in favour of machines.
That is an attitude to be supported, Priss, not kicked into touch.
Automation is going to happen regardless. Companies would probably rather have robots working for them so they only have to pay a robot repair man every now and then.

David Neumark, Wall Street Journal, just wrote a devastating article recently about job loss and the effect of a raised minimum wage.
But, in my opinion, the political left pays little, if any, attention to facts. Easier to blame evil corporations.
Just remember, when you (or a corporation) lies to the Government it can be a felony. But when the Government lies to the people, huh its just "politics".

Anyway, I wonder about the Hillary campaign. The mainstream punditry seems to think Trump is her "dream opponent". Frankly I'm not sure they're correct.
Hillary is tied to everything Obama including his failure against terrorism. Trump is the quintessential outsider. People like that.
Hillary will be given a pass by the mainstream news. Trump will not. People now see the bias and mistrust the news more than ever before. Trump attacks the news back, making the news the story. People like that too.
Hillary must defend the Obama immigration policy ignoring the American people's concerns. Trump speaks to the immigration threats.

I notice that you haven't included a link?
You see, there is plenty of hard evidence as regards what happens to an economy during a period of pay rises, so if I saw the article, I am sure it would make plenty of references to historical audited data, and not be mere supposition based on his political leanings, coz surprisingly enough, even a woman in the uk knows that the Wall Street Journal is a right wing propaganda tool, and incapable of avoiding bias.

Interesting I think.
The only way Trump will make president is if Daesh make an attack on the USA.
I would bet good money on that.
Without that, Trump is out. He just does not look like a president, and won't until he gets a sensible haircut. Sweepover hairstyles are like beards, people look at their owners and wonder what they are hiding.
Yeah, Hillary doesn't look like a President because she's a woman. Never had one of those before!!! =O What do they look like?
I'm not serious, of course. I don't care what someone looks like when voting. Unless they looked like a serial killer... those crazy, scary eyes... then I might not want to lol

Me? Shy?
Heather BINGO! Yes, as a female Hillary certainly would stand out in appearance from all other previous presidents.
While it may seem to be time for the first female president, I just cannot support someone so untrustworthy. Where I work I MUST conduct all company business on the company's server. I do. While Secretary of State, Hillary conducted no government business on a secure government server. Aside from the desire to hide your decision record and obscure communication from the American people, I can see no other reasons.
Let's find a better "first female" president just so up-coming generations don't see our foolishness.
<meh>, she has to be better that that **** of a woman we had, Thatcher. She set back female politicians for years in the uk, and in all the parties, not just her own.
Well, there were no rules where she couldn't use her own servers. Others before her have done the same, and nobody has gotten into trouble over it, so I say we just drop it.
