I dont think Ive ever had Scotch pancakes only those American things..Sorry to all the US members but they are nasty. Doughy and stodgy not light at all and running in syrup..Yuk.
Another Americanism I dont like, Hash browns.. Since when did they become standard on an English breakfast? The first time someone asked me if I wanted them I still had my Dutch mindset on and thought they said Hash Brownies which I thought would make for a cheerful start to the day but when I got something on my plate that tatsed of deep fried cardboard I soon changed my mind!

Pancakes are not supposed to be doughy, so if you had them like that they did them wrong =p They are supposed to be kind of airy. I also don't like them drenched in syrup. I put my syrup to the side so I can dip my pancakes in them so they maintain their texture.
Hash browns should not taste like deep fried cardboard. They should be pan fried or baked, but not in a whole lot of oil or anything. You need to have some good hash browns!! If you like potato, then you would like them when done right :-) They should taste like yummy potato with a little crispiness on the outside and some softer potato throughout.
