Today is a special day for the U.S., but I wanted to give some love to my friends in the UK. My family roots trace back to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Canada; so I may not even be here without the UK. Our countries have had a couple of skirmishes (1776 and 1812), but we have been staunch allies for 200 years! The UK has given me Monty Python, The Beatles, and so many friends at this site. How can I NOT love the UK!

The fourth of July used to be an uncomfortable day for me. It used to be the day I realised I had forgotten my Dad's birthday.

This year, I seem to have exorcised my sadness at his passing over 25 years ago, and I think of him on the fourth.

Cher, I feel your pain. I think of so many people that I was going to express my love to, but they passed away before I did so. I still think about that. Because I veered off-topic, I'll correct that by saying that the UK is this this country's staunchest ally!
