If we are talking about the almost certainly harmless lobe piercings, where it is just skin. Surprisingly, I have no opinion either way. Sometimes I am amazed that I have no opinion on something, and I do find it a little unnerving. LOL
If we are into the cartilaginous area, then put me down as "wait until the kid is 18" as the risk of damage is relatively high in comparison, and it should be their decision to take the risk.

I'm not sure. I might find it a little weird, but I guess I don't find it "wrong". My mom waited until I was old enough to say I wanted earrings.. I think I was around 7? My best friend had hers when she was not even 1!

I don't know if it's wrong or right. I was 10 when I asked my Mum if I could have my ears pierced. When she said Yes, I was thrilled! I became more of a "grown-up girl"!
im also not for nor against (i should have put that option) i think personally i wouldnt, ever take my baby for them pierced until they fully understood and wanted it, but i also live by the 'live and let live' motto on this too, just because i wouldnt do it, doesnt mean i would sign a petition to ban it.. I came accross it on facebook, there were some comments from people and it obviously sparked a debate.
A lady said that she doesnt see a problem with it, she had hers pierced at 6 month, she doesnt remember and 30 years later still wears ear rings, if there is a problem simple, remove the ear ring and it will heal. good point.. so was the reply 'a knife can be removed and the hole heal but it still doesnt make it right' okay maybe a bit over the top but still, he did make a good point..
alot of people call the abuse card. now idk if i would go as far as saying it IS abuse, but i guess i would say it is as bad as abuse. At the end of the day you are inflicting un necessary pain on a baby for what reason?? your own vanity??
again i dont judge people when i see their babies wearing ear rings, my OH little brother who is almost 2 has his done i dont judge the parents for it, i just personally wouldnt do it myself..
for the record, my grandma took me when i was 5, they became infected (more of a allergic reaction) they then healed so i had them done again when i was about 9 and had no problems, about a year later i had them done again just above the first set, again allergic reaction, healed, pierced again when i was about 11 or 12

I had no intention of getting my wee one's ear pierced until she was much older but at three-ish she damn well insisted on it herself. She didn't cry or anything and she was so happy with herself.

When I was a baby, I got my ears pierced. I don't remember it, I just always remember having earrings. I still wear earrings to this day. I got my second holes pierced when I was under 10, as well as my third ones, my belly button when I was 14 and my cartilage when I was 16... and my hood at 20. Lol!
That being said, I wouldn't do that to my kid because they are too young to have a say. When they are old enough to ask for it, then I will take them, but only after explaining to them that it won't be painless.
I just don't think it is fair to decide what to do with another person's body when it isn't necessary.
thats my point Suzy, i mean yeah i do think little girls look adorable with their ears pierced but really what is the logical reasons for it? there are none so why put a baby or very young child through something that they cant decide on, my OH doesnt even believe in them having piercings earlier than teenage years, he says that what if when they grow up they hate the piercing and dont want it, i said well int hat case they can take them out, but he says that doesnt take it away, he had his pierced at an early age, he couldnt even tell you when, and now he still has a visible hole, he hates it, and for that reason says its not fair allowing it until they are old enough to blame only themself, i guess i do see where hes coming from but i wouldnt say i totally agree. besides i have a boy so have little chance of worrying about piercings
