I often admit that I am content with my life. I have enough of everything to keep me satisfied. I have enough love, enough money, enough cars, enough houses, enough clothes.

I have enough to keep me content, and that is my goal in life, not to be rich, or famous, or anything spectacular, just content. I am of course aware that others would call me rich, there are also those who would ask why I settled for so little.

However

I do have an online friend in America, he is also content.

He is a non stop pot head.
He has a joint when he wakes up, and he smokes the stuff all through the day.

I should worry about him, but he is content with his lot, and if it has to be a drug induced contentment, does that make it any less so?

I can't help feeling sorry for him though.

What do the rest of you think, does he qualify to call himself "content"?

I don't care about being rich; I'm happy being comfortable. I'm guessing that your friend doesn't have a job.

I once saw something on a satirical talk show that made me chuckle. There was a sign behind one of the guys that read "A waste is a terrible thing to mind."

I mean.... he is content, so it should qualify. He may not be without the weed, so if he needs that to be content or happy, then so be it.

Everyone should at least be content, no matter what it is that makes it so (this does not include pedophiles and murderers, FYI).

Some people are only content with material things.... and I might feel sorry for those types as well, but hey, they are content when they have those things.

I am content from my few close relationships and good food lol oh, and internet =p

I don't consider a mind to be wasted because someone is regularly using marijuana. It can bring out more philosophical thoughts and creativity. Same for some other drugs.

The thing is, though, he uses it so often that it might not even do as much to him anymore. You do build up a tolerance!

He is a self employed computer technician, he also harvests his own bee hives.

I sort of assume, that he has acquired, if not immunity, then accustomisation to it.

But I can't help feeling sorry that life will pass him by, and one day, he will learn that.

He may never feel that life passed him by if he is always content. He's doing what he wants/likes, surely?

People don't really seek out answers to what else is out there when they are happy or content, so he may not "know any better", ever.

That could be a good thing, too =p

They have dropped out due to discontent.

My drug use is very controlled.

It does not define me.

I want to get up early, go for walks, see my friends, tutor my students,

liberate my sexuality, read, study, write to all of you, and remain a resource to those that want me to.

Excessive drugs F with all of that.

I doubt his content claims.

And yes, I would worry Cher.

I dont lack ambition, but I have targets that other people would dismiss as worthless.

I currently work 2 days a week, and every 6 weeks I will do 4 days. My ambition is to cut back a little more next year, I want to cut at least 10%.

That is my work ambition at present.

I can feel you through your words alone.

I think I know more about you, and Jen, and Heatherly, than my own mom sometimes.

I was my HS valedictorian. My mom was a graduation no show.

But my dad was there of course, as always.

I'll take love and sex over money, fancy cars, and that other crap any day Cher.

Michelle, my grandma is similar to your mom.

Nobody knows why she even had kids... she used to claim they weren't hers, too.

She was just a business minded woman, plus she was selfish and vain...

I barely know her as a grandma, but if I want business or school advice, then she is the person to talk to about it...

Yeah, I guess we have accepted my mom.

But it did cause some havoc when we were younger.

Like my dad did a bit of running around.

We were soo angry and mean to him about it.

So now I can say we almost encourage him, and my mom doesn't seem to care.
