Any of you have a garden? What do you have growing?
Post pictures of your gardens and plants if you want!
My boyfriend and I are starting a mini garden on our balcony. We bought one blueberry plant and one strawberry plant, and then we bought a bunch of funky/cool looking succulents. I'll probably post pictures of them eventually, once we have everything set up :-)
We just got finished mixing soil and potting the blueberry and strawberry plants about two hours ago... I'm pretty excited to see how they turn out! Fresh, organic berries... yum, can't wait!
We ran out of supplies, so we'll have to wait to pot the succulents, but so far so good! I had fun out there.. it's a relaxing hobby.
I also plan on getting some houseplants from a nursery. I haven't decided on which type of plants yet, though.
We have been making a pond in our back garden. Not a big one, and it was only filled last autumn. Anyway the big news is that we spotted a newt in it this morning, it looks like this one.
Ok, I have been photographing the back garden of our other house.
It is very much a work in progress, the SO does most of the design, but we share the work. Well I do some.
Pic 1 This is the SO with our newt. If you look in the pond you can also see some of our fish.
After much thought we have decided to call him "mi". Well he isn't very big at all. But he is "mi"newt.
Pic 2 is the pond, it is almost finished, but needs to acquire a bit more of a lived in look.
Pic 3 is our dog guarding the garden room. We had a long garage, which only kept junk. Now it has been split into two halves and we had that glass work added so we can sit in there and look out.
It still needs more work, as you can plainly see, and the inside is still bare.

My grandma has a raised garden Heather.
Tomatoes galore, but also grapes and berries.
She knows way more than I do about that.
She also has an indoor Shamrock plant, that the leaves close at night.
I think we only bought one plant that will actually flower a little. Aside from that, we have this pot that started to grow a snapdragon in it by itself. It has died, but new ones are growing in.
These are the pictures I took months ago, before winter killed it.

It is early days for our garden. When we bought this house it was just a lawn with a barren wall garden. So it really will be "ours" when it is finished.
Our other garden, that we have had for ten years is mostly ours, but the layout, inc the two ponds was there when we bought it, so it doesn't feel all ours, even though we have put a lot of work into it. It is a beautiful garden though, but being so much larger and adaptable, it was not so difficult to make it so.
Master Gardner's are simply people practicing basic eco principles. Growing and harvesting edible plants harkens back to the days of man's Hunter Gatherer experiences.
Anthropologists say we lived in small tribes that established our first societies.
Early Chinese wrote dirges about how man and out earth are closely related and bonded.

I like what Molly is growing in her garden! I have a small yard that doesn't give me much room for a garden. I would probably grow tomatoes and cucumbers for a start.
There seems to always be a way to grow a garden, even in limited space. I'm doing it on a small balcony in an apartment. I have read articles about growing things in containers... potatoes, cucumbers, etc. seem to be good for the containers. Tomatoes should be easy, too!
But man... I just found out it can take up to 8 years for the blueberry bush to really produce a good amount. Now I feel like we bought a pet! We'll have to invest a lot more time and resources into it =p but hey... in 6-8 years it will be worth it; we'll possibly be harvesting a lot of blueberries, if all goes well.... Hopefully it will live that long lol

You guys inspired me so much I drove out to Flamingo Gardens, a beautiful nursery W. of Ft. Laud.
I didn't buy anything bc I don't even have a balcony.
but I took a bunch of pics that I will post up later.
I have been to Flamingo Gardens a few times in my life =p I just went in September or so. It's pretty, huh? I took so many pictures, too lol I love gardens!
Moving onto our other garden, this is rather large so I have broken it into a few different areas.
First the fish pond. This is one of our frogs, we get some eggs in this pond, butthe fish eat them before they hatch .Attachment Deleted Next, is our fish, these are various different koi, I am not sure how many we have a fox or heron took a lot last year. There must be about 15 left, some are about 24 inches long.
Attachment Deleted This last picture shows our fish pond in it's entirety. It is surrounded by a rockery, with little alpine plants and flowers, to the back you can see our garden shed and our greenhouse. That very tall tree, just in front of the greenhouse? I am expecting Jen to tell me what it is. Attachment Deleted

This is our wild pond, this has our plants in it, lilies, acers, and others who's name I have no idea of lol. The animal life is all natural, so it has two types of newts, smooth and crested, the crested are protected. It also has a selection of frogs and toads, and we think there may even be the rare natterjack toad, but we know little about this. Every year it gets loads and loads of frog and toad spawn, and even newt spawn. Currently, though you can't see it, it is teeming with tadpoles.
Just behind the pond where you can see our little apple tree is the wild area, this is untouched, usually, and is where the newts live when they are not in the pond. It is full of various wild flowers and old branches. This attracts insects for the newts.

I love it there.
Do you live close?
I used to live near Ft. Lauderdale. I'm in NC now.
