We had a great walk this morning, Remy and Benny really enjoyed walking through a local park and seeing the goats and geese.. Then we saw a lady with a small dog nervously coming toward us.. I assured her Benny wouldnt do anything and so she allowed her dog to sniff at Benny.. She explained she had got a dog because she hoped it would help her over her fear of dogs.. I asked if it had worked and she explained she wasnt so bad now except with German shepherds.. With a perfectly serious face she explained that it was all due to an expierence she had in a former life when she was ripped to shreds by a pack of german shepherds..
I congratualted her on getting over her fear enough to brave getting a dog herself and moved on..
Why do all the weird ones talk to me?
Oh dear, you have my every sympathy, from when I was young, and even now, because I am short, slim and pale, I am a magnet for the elderly wanting to know if I am alright and would I like a sweetie?
It is not good for the image, and it was murderous when I was a cool sophisticated teenager out with my friends.
Greta to hear you have got them both out walking normally again.
I was out walking my dog, she is just finishing off being on heat, and we were approached by a labrador cross. It was enormous, I think it was crossed with a buffalo tbh. It really made my dalmation look little.
So I called my dog over, and she is running towards me, when labradorzilla comes pounding towards her. Well she has always fancied herself as Queen of all that she surveys, so she turns round and charges towards him. I thought "she has bitten off more than she can chew this time."
Anyway, they are charging towards each other, just about to collide, when she dinks to the right, and charges into this dog's chest. The dog let out a howl and goes tumbling over, rolling on his side and howling as he goes.
By this time she is at my side, and the dog is getting up, and coming towards us. The owner is shouting at the dog. I stood behind my dog, preventing it from mounting her.
Mine is growling away like crazy, "You touch my virgin flesh and you are dead meat!" she is saying.
The owner came up, apologised and dragged the dog away, he was still up for it. lol
Had I not been there, that dog would certainly have had his way, sooner or later, strength does usually prevail. But I am often impressed at how tough she is and how determined. Oddly enough, as a puppy, we chose her from the pack, purely because she was so gentle, as my daughter was then nervous of dogs.
It certainly cured her of her fear of dogs.
We are all very proud of her.

This afternoon OH phoned me at work , he was due to got to the hospital at 3pm to see the orthopedic doc about his knee but he had spotted two dogs wandering the street outside or house. One french bulldog one border collie type obviously in season..
Niether had collars on so I told him where the spare collars and leads were and he managed to catch them both and put them in the garage away from our two boys. He put down a blanket and gave them water..
Then he called our son in law who works at a local pet shop to see if he recognised the dogs.
SIL didnt but he knows people at the local dog rescue and called them asking if any dogs were missing ,, sure enough they had been reported missing and the french bully belongs to our neighbour's grown up son.
The two have walked a couple of miles across major busy roads and a bridge to get here. Son in law phoned the owner of the BC as she had left her mobile number and after about 10 minutes she turned up to collect her dog..My neighbour then wandered out and said .'oh youve got them,.. oh well come on diesel get indoors'
Not thank you, not OMG Im glad you took them in. Nothing. What an ungrateful so & so. She and her son really shouldnt have a dog.. This is the third time we have had to intervene and the police have already had him to task about the dog not wearing a collar and nearly causing an accident..
( OH made it in time for his appointment.. Has to have knee surgery next month)
Amazing. I suppose that dogs and cats can co-exist! Wonderful video.
They sure can! When I was a kid, I had a dog and a cat. We used to take walks down the street with both of them (our cat would always follow along with us), they liked being together, even if sometimes our cat would claw at him, but they loved each other anyway. When our dog passed away, our cat cried for weeks on end.. howling every night. She missed him as much as us...
It is true that there are some people that dogs don't like, I try to be sympathetic towards them. They are nervous of the dogs and dogs are very scary if you are scared of them.
If my dog turned on me she would kick my ass quite effortlessly, and I know it.
She, fortunately, believes the opposite.
Is it just my dog that sniffs everyone's crotch, including mine.
I positively freaked out the first time I saw a dog sperm extraction in the 4H club. I know I just couldn't do that. Don't even ask about the castration stuff. A boy fainted once during. LOL!
My dog ate every single one of my mom's strawberries off the plants last season. Penny came in and her mouth was all red as she licked, post snack. LOL!

I think it's cats and dogs, but it's just dogs even more so.
I mean, I don't think every single dog or cat will end up with issues from eating them (especially if it's just a small amount), but it's probably not worth the risk.
Our dogs have birthdays of course but because they have all been rescues they have gotcha days, the day we adopted them and they are the days we remember. On 15 oct 2001 I was broken into... My old dog had died in the July and we hadnt really come round to the idea of a new dog yet, but OH said 'thats it tomorrow we go to the rescue and you get a new dog'
He was working away a lot of the time leaving me and my 15 yr old daughter alone at home.
So off we went the following morning and the choice was simple there were three dogs in the rescue, a JRT who had sat for 3 day with his dead owner. An elderly yorkie who needed a quite place, and a very young hyper Border collie.
We asked about the BC and were told he had been seized by police on an animal welfare raid. An elderly couple in a farming community had him, he had been locked up in a shed without food or water and was close to death when found. His injuries included being shot with an air rifle in his leg his ear and a glancing shot in his eye and he had had broken ribs on one side ( consistent with a kick) At the time we saw him he had just come out of 3 weeks in the animal hospital. He weighed half what a BC should.
We took him home. He was easily exhausted, crazy for water so we had to ration him or else he drank until he was sick , he licked condense off grass and bottles or windows.. He gobbled his food so we had to sort that out too, but he quickly settled into a routine although he was scared of every noise and shadow at first. After the first year even the vet was surprised at how well he had recovered and he became my rock,he was kind and gentle. I know BC's stare but Oscar had a way of looking into you not at you he smelled of milk and cookies like a baby does. It broke my heart when we lost him in 2012..
Today I think of him and the brilliant times we had, I miss him by my side, keeping my feet warm in the evenings and just knowing that while he was with me I felt invincible.
He was the best birthday I ever had and I will never forget his gotcha day...
