I woke up yesterday morning with real bad ear ache, i cant really explain where it was hurting without pointing it out but its somewhere inside my ear, this pain then moved onto my throat and later on i had headache, the indside of my hear feels a little swollen to touch, theres no excessive wax in there, ive used warm olive oil, ear drops etc and nothing, i dont use cotton buds to clean my ears so ive not done damage myself. Ive woke up this morning with little to no pain, its getting worse and worse as the day goes on, it also feels a bit muffled, i can hear fine but idk maybe its the swelling i can feel, its just now started to hurt my throat again, and its getting more painful. I did try for an appointment this morning but by the time i got through there was no more, if the pain gets as bad as it was yesterday i really cant cope another day, ibuprofen didnt do anything, neither did the oil or ear drops, my mum told me yesterday to go to the walk in centre or out of hours doctors, but i dont really think a little bit of ear ache is bad enough to go to a walk in centre.. and especially not if its just wax touching my ear drum or something

You can go to an ear doctor, and they can help remove the wax if that is all it is. Better to be safe than sorry! You also do not want a possible infection to go untreated, especially if it is causing you such pain.

What concerns me is that the pain has gone to your throat. I've had ear aches in the past, but my throat was never affected. For me it was usually a wax build-up.
my mum thought it was infection as it was hurting my throat and head, but like i said to my 'OH' last night surely i would really know about it if it was an infection, the pain was really bad last night, hurting my head again and my throat when i ate or drank, i got a Dr appointment just hope its not a waste of time.

Ive now decided in future when i have something wrong im not going to bother with the Drs idk wether its just my Doctors that are crap but whenever i go it seems they fob me off, but because they are doctors feel as though you have to take their word for it, there has been many many reasons that have made me decide this.. when M was a baby he was sick after every single bottle, i was prescribed something that worked for a week, so i changed his milk, again that worked a week, the Dr i saw after that took to google to find a diagnosis and decided just like that he had a milk allergy, which he didnt. i then took him because he had a cough, they told me all was fine, until i had to take him to out of hours bcos he had a temp again fobbed off with medicine to then find out he had bronchitis. i went for some eczema cream, the Dr wouldn't give me none, her words were 'are you sure thats eczema, it doesnt look like it to me, just moisturise' i told her i have had eczema forever, i know thats what it is, she still wouldnt give me none.
so ive just been now, he looked in my throat, all clear, looked in my ear and said 'well theres no wax so thats not a problem, your ear membrane looks a little dull which indicates there is a infection, but you will be fine, take some ibuprofen and if any liquid comes out of your ear then come back'
great, ibuprofen to cure a ear infection, who knew it huh

i will also add, im in so much more pain now after he stuck the thing in my ear ibuprofen dont work bcos ive tried already, so looks like a pain ima have to put up with for now

Is there an ear, nose, and throat doctor near you? Sounds like the general doctor will not cut it!
For now.. try some 'home remedies'. Have plenty of probiotics and garlic (you can take garlic supplements) to start with. That might help your body fight it off if it's not too severe.. Also, drink plenty of water, as always.
Heather, over here we only get the option of seeing our own GP, if we want to see a consultant eg ear, nose and throat, then we ask the GP to refer us.
The doctors all have their own allocated budget, so they don't always wish to spend it on what you want them to, particularly, if they don't agree with you.
The budget allocation can also throw out large anomalies, as the money comes through groups within the hospitals. These groups [directorates] allocate the money that departments earn.
As a brief for instance, my own speciality within my own structure invoiced over £2,000,000. Whereas I was given £1,300,000 to run that service.
If it were not for staff turnover, or staff requesting to go part time, I would have struggled to keep in budget.

i totally neglected this post, sorry guys. I went to the doctors on tuesday 2 days after the pain started, i told him all about the pain, i told him that my ear feels a little swollen inside and that its hurting my throat and head. He looked in my mouth, all clear, he looked in my right ear, then left then right again his words were 'well your ears are the cleanest ive seen, there is NO wax in there, your ear membrane does look a little dull indicating a sign of infection, but its okay, just take some ibuprofen you can buy at the chemist' i always thought if there was a infection it had to be treated or it could get worse.. it is still tender but doesnt hurt my throat or head anymore so im assuming all is okay. but ive given up going to the doctors now bcos they are rubbish

Ibuprofen is a pain med with anti inflammatory properties. But it is definitely not anti biotic. I would add some OC anti biotic for sure. Ampicillin is popular here, but requires a scrip. I don't think you need a scrip there.

I had an allergic reaction once and developed lumps on my legs, arms, and face. It only lasted a couple of hours and by the time I got to the nurse it had pretty much disappeared. Rather than giving me a shot, she told me to take Benadryl.
Paracetamol causes death in a number of people attention seeking. They are rescued from their suicide attempt, but the liver damage kills them a few days later.
