Most houses are full of stuff, mine is no exception, so rather than buying more furniture to hide it in. I try to become more space efficient.
This is my favourite tip.
Fill your socks, tights and underwear drawers with empty shoe boxes. Then you can allocate them and find them much easier, particularly if you dump the lids.
So you have a box for big socks, little socks, lonely socks etc. You have a box for big pants, little pants etc It works really well and increases the storage capacity of the drawers, particularly these modern drawers with their low sides - what is the point of them???
Bigger items need bigger boxes, long sleeved t shirts, short sleeved teeshirts etc etc
Any more storage tips?

Well, I bought some hangers that have several "layers" on them, so you can hang multiple items on one hanger and save a lot of room. I'd look into things like that if you want to free up closet space!
I don't have room for too many things to begin with! lol
I have a dresser with shallow drawers, so I can't fit as much as I want in them. I don't even have a place for my pajamas, which I wear most often. I usually keep some of them in a laundry basket for now. I'll have to wait until I live in a house or something, so I can have a place for everything lol and another small dresser that matches my current one I suppose... I wouldn't have anywhere to put one in the apartment, which is why I haven't gotten one yet.
I don't have room for all the kitchen gadgets either. We have some sitting in the living room area. Same for if we buy (non-refrigerated) food in bulk.. it's on the kitchen table because we don't have a large enough pantry or kitchen. It's a VERY small kitchen.... lol that is one of the top things I am looking forward to changing when we move.. I want at least a medium sized kitchen and enough space for our stuff. Even our fridge is outdated and doesn't hold enough room for the things we'd want to buy in bulk lol our freezer space is toooooo tiny, too.

My place has 7 rooms and starting last Saturday I began serious consolidation of my stuff. Things that I never use or wear gets tossed, leaving me with more room for the stuff I actually use.
The bedrooms are a pretty nice size (bigger than the room I grew up in!!), but other furniture that was here before me takes up space =p We plan on trashing a lot of it when we leave here.
I don't plan on decorating and buying new furniture until we move because most things I'd buy for an apartment would be smaller than what I'd buy for a house, you know? Also, this apartment complex has a roach problem lol we don't want to bring them with us.. ugh! I can't wait to move, but it will be a few years!! lol

That's when you will finish college and start your medical career?
Also when I was unemployed I went through herb and spice rack and threw out all the ones that had expired, bought new ones and put in black marker the new expiration date so I could easily tell when I need to through it out. I also did that with my pantry stuff.
I have a girlfriend that I wish I was as organized is. She actually hangs her clothes by color, and switches out her winter clothes in her closet to summer/spring clothes.
She also vacuums behind her couch.
But I guess this is more organizational than storage related.

Val and I compartmentalize. I have different little bins for my meds, needles and threads, loose change, et cetera.(notice I didn't say ex cetera) I know exactly where items are now; it wasn't always this way.
I like your ice cube tray idea. I really don't keep my earrings organized; I have small hoops, large hoops, dangles . . . I'll have to work on something.
I do like the labeling idea. I already have most of those in boxes lol. The RX idea I particularly like, so neat.
I am surprised how unpopular this thread is.
Are you all scruffy cows?
i am yes!! seriously, i am. my prev house had 4 floors, i had a big basement, which was where my OH kept motorbikes and tools etc. we had a big kitchen, a pretty small living room and 4 big bedrooms as wel as a tiny bathroom, at first we had the house normal, used only one bedroom until M was born the rest were full of junk really, which i didnt really care about, out of sight out of mind and all that. one of the rooms was a smoking room as it was right at the top of the house, it was also where our dogs slept, we then decided to make more of space, just before M was due, actually 4 days after my contractions started, we decided to move our living room upstairs into what was our bedroom, what was the living room then became the dining room and we then had 3 bedrooms, one of which was ours and Malakais, the other 2 was still full of junk, in our kitchen there wasnt much cupboard or work top space and in our kitchen we have kettle & tea, coffee sugar pots, a bullet (food blender) toaster, double chip pan, a million plates, cups and glasses plus 100 pans, we ended up getting a book case off OHs gran for all our pans, and another unit with a small cupboard and 2 small drawers, we then used the book case in Ms room for baby stuff and the other for pans in the kitchen, other than that we literally have no storage sense.
i now live in a house with only 2 floors, a open plan living room kitchen, not as luxurious as it sounds, its tiny and horrid, theres a very small bathroom and 3 small bedrooms, one bedroom is literally crammed full of boxes and boxes and bags and shit!!
i need help

When life hands you lemons, make grape juice then sit back and watch as the world wonders how you did it.
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ‘til tomorrow For babies grow up we've learnt to our sorrow, So quiet down cobwebs Dust go to sleep I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep
