According to Dutch figures driving after using cannabis increases your chance of being involved in an RTC by 3 compared with a non using driver however use of alcohol is twice as risky as the use of cannabis when driving ..
The fact is anything that impares your response when driving is a bad idea.
I found a study, it's old but still worth noting:
A 2007 case-control study published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health reviewed 10-years of US auto-fatality data. Investigators found that US drivers with blood alcohol levels of 0.05% – a level well below the legal limit for intoxication – were three times as likely to have engaged in unsafe driving activities prior to a fatal crash as compared to individuals who tested positive for marijuana.

Maybe not directly but I can imagine hundreds, or even thousands, have died due to accidents while driving under the influence with the resulting lack of proper perception of their situation.
Spoken like someone who doesn't smoke but listens and trusts anti-marijuana propaganda
There's no data supporting your imagination.
Actually... the state of Alabama, which is terribly behind in their laws, witnessed 989 deaths on the highway in 2022; Colorado (a state with legal marijuana for 20+ years) was 764 in the same year.
Based on your imagination, it should be reversed.
Actually spoken as someone who has ridden my little motorbike under the influence and really experienced the (in my case) realisation of time issues that came with it. Obviously you never have or are in denial. It was pretty scary, and not something to do. I know from the scene of those days that some people would end up in hospital. The drugs are usually mixed with alcohol so it tended to get the blame as easier to process a ban but that was probably not always the case. I remember I used to think of not if but when. Life was hectic at times.
I cant find the exact link I looked at when on my phone but this also highlights the chance of accident as 3 times that of someone without cannabis in the bloodstream.
The simple facts is, driving is not a right its a privalige and you should never drive while using anything that puts other innocent people at risk so thats drugs , drink and mobile phone use.
Every study arrives in its own conclusion. The idea is not only to look at what you want to see or listen to what you want to hear. What I learned in reading a research/study is that the first thing you need to look at is not the conclusion but its design. Cross sectional and case control studies are not strong designs because they are highly susceptible to bias. Also the study was published in 2007. Surely, there are more recent studies than this. If I'm writing a paper about relational effect of Cannabis, I wouldn't be bothered to read a 17 year old journal unless it is a solid randomised controlled trial. Yep, I'm biased

....and even then, the writer's bias has to be taken into account. Half full, or half empty?

That's your case but that doesn't apply to everyone as everyone is different.
This thread is just speaking on marijuana, not alcohol which have ruined countless of lives but no one has died from Marijuana and hospitalization happens with due inexperience, not from the drug itself.

Any substance that affects control and responsibility of a moving vehicle is dangerous: whether it is alcohol or marijuana or another mood altering substance.
THC in saliva only lasts a few hours and majority of American police departments don't have saliva tests in their vehicle or a laboratory where it is performed.
no, it isn't a dip stick test.

That goes without saying
Again, not sure how this convo derailed but no one should be driving under any influence
I found an English link that might be easier to follow. I dont know how the law works in the uk but here in NL a positive saliva test would be followed at the police station by a blood or urine test to accurately measure the THC levels .

I don't have experience but it's quite probable that, with the suspicion, and a positive finding of the drug on the person or in the vehicle arrest is likely, and the suspect taken for a proper test. It is illegal to drive under the influence of drugs but without looking it up I don't know the details. I think breath tests for alcohol are now standard at police attended road accidents and I think that if there was an indication of drugs then it would be followed up. I haven't heard of any routine roadside drug tests, similar to those for alcohol but that doesn't mean that the capability is not there.
Whatever the roadside result though it's the properly organised one back at the station which gives the results for a prosecution, at least for alcohol so I think a drug test would be the same, so it would be a clinical drug test giving relevant figures.
The police always have the power to stop someone driving if they have good justification.
Edit - Things do seem the same as in NL but I think the allowable limits often change between countries.

LOL not in the United States. They literally will shoot to kill for no reason at all.
I am curious about how long the stuff stays in your blood stream, and if, like alcohol, there is a level that is acceptable.
I don't take the stuff very often, and never drive with, but I can do the following day when I feel no effect.
THC is funny. It depends on a lot of factors. THC attaches to your fat cells sooo if you have a LOT of fat, THC will be stored in your system for long HOWEVER it isn't the active-THC (you're not high the next day).
The active THC component, that makes you high, only lasts a few hours in your bloodstream.
BTW there no "acceptable" limit for driving. An officer in the US can pull you over and test and arrest you if you admit to a "I a sip" or even if they have "probable cause". The courts take the word of the officer, 9x out of 10.

The problem with taking marijuana is that a person could start taking heavier and more dangerous drugs. Plus, if they are mixing in with groups that take illegal drugs, they could be pressured to start taking heroin or cocaine. And if they are caught by the police, they'd end up with a criminal record. This means there is a risk of going to prison/not finding employment/the council not housing the person.
The drug world is a dangerous one and people have been murdered because of the drug trade.
