It was also my very first attempt at starting a business. I was just utterly fearless [stoopid] I went out rented a hotel dance floor just out of town, rented a disco unit, dragged a guy with a car into help me [paid him with beer]. I designed my own posters, printed off tickets, and distributed them around the local record stores. I also had to arrange a late license to keep the bar open till 12.00, in those days scottish bars shut at 10. To get a late license I had to provide food for all. I ordered filled sandwiches.

There had never been a rock disco in the area before, possibly never in Scotland, I don't honestly know. It never ocurred to me that it would not be a success.

It was packed, and it led to me getting a residency at the hotel. That was great, all the organising was no longer my responsibility.

It was great until the fighting started. Too many guys, too few women, a recipe for a testosterone fuelled night. The inevitable happened, there was a huge barney one night, with bottles flying, and that was that.

Great fun while it lasted.

Fancy being 19, and paid to drink, dance and play your favourite music.

I was a dj twice.

Not a bad way to start.
