Suzy, if you like Taylor Swift, check out my fav, Kacey Musgraves. Cher is probably cringing right now because I've mentioned her a few times before.
Ok, I'll add it to my list of bands to check out. I actually have a list and when I am looking for new music I YouTube various musicians. I love music!
I don't download songs, so zero =p !! I can't bring myself to like country... (Sorry, Jen). lol however, I like some of the messages Kacey is sending, and I will listen to the songs suggested, but I will not do it for enjoyment.

But Heather, she's not REAL country. She has a twang, but with Bob Dylan lyrics. And Cher, I'm proud of you! For those of you that aren't familiar with "Blowing Smoke", Kacey is talking about working in a diner and she and her co-workers always talk about leaving, but they're just blowin' smoke. The more songs you hear from her, the better you'll like her. Cher, in a month I'll be seeing her.
I think she might be considered real country regardless. Based on what I read... we're in Sixth generation country music times lol so whatever country music sounds like today is the real deal. It has "evolved".

I like Cher's "New Wave Country" comment, but I think of her as a cross-over artist. I'm not really into country music, but I love her songs; traditional country fans like her as well. And then there are her fans in Manchester, UK - they're crazy about her! Whatever works, works.

Good music is good music, no matter what style! El Tri is a band from Mexico and half of their songs are bluesy. They sound like a blues version of AC/DC with Spanish words!
Country has become more mainstream and adopted pop to it as the norm. It's SO different from what I heard growing up, back when I would listen to it for fun to make fun of the lyrics lol
If anything she is closer to 'real' country than what country is today; you can still hear the roots of folk and stuff coming through on some of her songs. She has a more modern view on society, though, that is what makes her different.
That sums it up. I don't always focus on the genre as much. I can like a song in any genre really, but I tend to not like songs from country, rap, r&b or hip hop... but every now and then there will be a song I don't mind or like. Depends on how it's done I guess, and if the lyrics are good, then I'll give it more of a chance :-)
Ok Heatherly so I just listened to "Safe and Sound." I didn't know Taylor Swift sang that song.
So here is a fun story:
I have this one class at the gym I like going to. The instructor is awesome and she always comes up with new playlists for our workouts. Because of her I heard "Shake it Off" for the first time there. I thought to myself "Wow, what a good song!" At this point I didn't know it was Taylor Swift. Then I think I saw her on Ellen or something singing that song and I was all like "Wow! She has really diversified I must check out her new album!"
Anyway, now that I am a huge Swift fan I notice my instructor plays a lot of her songs. "Safe and Sound" is one of our cool down songs and I really liked it. Just found out now that it is also Taylor Swift.
So it turns out going to the gym made me love Taylor Swift.
hey cher, i love the stones, in the day i was really crushed by brian jones , he was so dam cute, as i said before loved them english guys.and as for modern country music , its just rock with a twang. hugs stevie.

Jimmy Buffett had a song called "If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me". In Kacey's song "Get Outta My Yard", one of her lines is "Maybe you didn't get the message when I didn't return your call" . Similar, huh?
