how do you know when someone is interested in you?

Some will take it that way, others won't.

You need to stop generalising. We are all different.

Nothing wrong with being flirtatious by the way, I do it a lot. But always for fun. Though sometimes I will take advantage of it, if it suits me.

I agree... it's really hard to say what someone will find flirtatious or inappropriate. If you are ever worried, then you could either stop doing whatever makes you wonder if it's okay or not just to be on the safe side... or if you are close enough to them, ask their opinion on it.

I know women like to compliment each other, and it's not necessarily to be flirtatious.... just a kind word to give someone a boost. Really, I think the way the compliments are said, and the facial expressions and body language that goes along with it is what really changes it from a nice, innocent comment to something not-so-innocent.

However, some people are used to getting unwanted attention from strangers a bit more than they'd like.. in a negative, perverted, sexual way, so it can be hard for them to even distinguish a difference anymore because their guard will be up with everyone and automatically assume it's the wrong kind of attention. It's definitely something I'd tread lightly with, especially at work, as you don't want to get into trouble for someone thinking you're trying to start an affair... lol some people also have a big ego and will think that's what everyone wants out of them.
