How many here have a morbid interest in watching or listening to dark web [1] stories on YouTube? Some of the circumstances of these stories feel too real considering the ugliness of the world while at the same time seem fabricated for entertainment purposes. I suppose the truth is a little of both. Real life stories that, perhaps, the truth is too realistic and unsettling for platforms like YouTube so channel uploaders make edits to retain an a sense of entertainment value for views and subscribes. I make this thread right after I watched one such video about regular everyday people who voyage to the dark web for a variety of real world problems seeking solutions and end up learning valuable life lessons while showing the potential psychological trauma one risks through exploration of such areas online. It serves as a warning about the dangers of not only the dark web, but also as a message to always remain with a sense of wariness that there are ugly people out there willing to do harm solely for the purpose of their own pleasure. The video mentioned is provided below for those intrigued, but viewer discretion is advised.
1. A part of the internet that is not indexed by traditional search engines and is often associated with illegal or illicit activities.
You answered my question there
It has been something that I meant to investigate, although I am not interested in the Dark Web, as such, and never got round to.
Years ago, in the early 2000's, I was developing some web software and needed to test it properly. The best way I found was to actually run web server software on my computer (on the work network) and access my setup site from another computer on the network. To avoid it being easily noticed I needed it to not be readily accessible by anyone else. I would almost certainly have got rapped knuckles if anyone had found out
The method I found seems to work exactly like the dark web.
An example you can all try is to enter c: (in Windows) in your internet search engine. You will see that it is another way of accessing your hard disk.

Leaf , I could stomach only the first "stroy." I had to stop somewhere in the middle of the second one. Sorry.
At the doctor's office a while back, I was soooo engrossed in reading this article when I was ultimately called in. The lab tech photocopied it for me so I could take it home to finish reading it. It's lengthy, but interesting, and goes into the history of the NRL's involvement in creating the Dark Web.
I recently watched a video about a guy who was urging people to stay away from the deep web, but it wasn't like these stories. He said somethings that I kind of knew in my heart weren't true. Such deep web stories like these are works of fiction from various groups of people like aspiring authors and people just looking to scare regular web visitors who don't know any better. Again, this is something I already knew in my heart, but his reasons for not venturing into the deep web were even more reasonable. The truth is that there is really no difference between the regular web and the deep web other than the deep web not being categorized by Google. This makes it a heavy den of illegal activity which could make any potential curious visitors there gain a felony and/or scare them for life. Sure, drug exchanges and what not are there, but the one thing that is commonplace there is CP (and I don't mean Cheese Pizza).
While these stories are great for chills and potential warnings to stay away from harmful situations. The realities for why you should never visit the deep web are much more rational and have legal/mental repercussions.

Eh, I've already seen more than I would have liked to from the dark web... the true, actual dark web that I'll never forget... not the fake stuff. I don't mind reading creepy stories, but there's a lot of sick videos and photos out there that thankfully are kept away from most areas on the internet.
Interestingly there is an episode of 'Grace' the detective series which was shown on TV a few days back. It portrayed a guy who, after just being inquisitive about a memory stick he found, ended up being kidnapped, with his wife, to take part in a screened killing on the web. Maybe just TV but it was nasty and would put many off even computers let alone the dark web.
'Grace' is a modern TV detective series which makes the murders in programs like 'Miss Marple' seem really tame and unreal. The books it comes from really bite on the imagination and are not for the squeamish.

TV detectives have got a lot darker of late. The so won't watch most of them.
I don't mind TV shows because I know I'm not watching something real... but the part that always makes them more shocking is the idea that this has happened or could happen.
Most documentaries on actual events of something don't show much that I would consider graphic enough to put me off to it.

Maybe, but one particular point of the 'Grace' episode that I think of is the stuff of nightmares. A young woman was secured in a chair and had a cover over her eyes. The camera cut to her assaillant, who could not be recognised, holding a vicious looking knife. They raised it, then there were screams as she was stabbed, visciously repeatedly. You could actually see very little but the way it was done - it being shown on a TV screen ie online in the episode - and the emphasis on the unknown plus sound made it far more terrifying.

I can cope with that type of tv event. I dislike it when they show it as gory. I am not fussy on gore.
