Perhaps one of the greatest words to describe emotion in any given language and one of those words that I have great difficulty describing in English despite conversing with native Japanese speakers. That is because there is no direct English translation for such a word. That is until the very scary thing occurred to me recently and that is the fact that AI based service ChatGPT nearly explained in detail just what this word represents. I immediately knew I had to find an extension that would allow me to capture this conversation to use in promoting greater awareness of something that may allow for humans to be more in-tune with their own personal feelings. 🌐 What does the word Setsunai (切ない) mean?

This word has come to hold special meaning for me and it's great to have it laid out in greater detail. The questions asked where all ones I asked native speakers and the answers reflected their own.

It is a word that I am aware of but have never used.

One of the things which I have noticed here is that words, and even phrases, from other languages are increasingly accepted into English. In that way it's maybe more useful to use such a word in it's original context and leave precise meaning to the academics. In English foreign words also tend to convey a feeling of culture of that country; such feeling being lost in any translation. In this case, at least, Setsunai is about feeling.

Though it always annoyed me how no such words like this exists in English.
