Those are great, showing how close wildlife can get when you least expect it. 

I think that psychopaths also feel pain, but we don't sympathise.

Insects are HORRIBLE - aside from my love of spiders - but other bugs I hate. Insects have their place in nature - OK, that's fine - but they don't have any place in my apartment or anywhere else near me. Bugs freak me out.

They may well feel pain: and it IS also interesting that scientists have discovered this. Because scientists are learning about the natural world. I am all for scientific research but on a personal level I don't like bugs. That being said, learning about the natural world does interest millions of people around the world and I am sure many will find this research very interesting.

Peoples' perceptions are interesting. Even some of the ants we have in this country can have a painful bite, even though it is not dangerous to most people. I know from experience. Most insects, on the other hand, are completely harmless.

Funny you should say that but probably yes . The one I remember well, and the most recent, was in the house. I cannot remember the circumstances exactly but I got a sudden sharp pain in one of my fingers and, when I held up my hand to look, I saw an ant clinging on by its pincers. It might not seem obvious but it was being aggressive. There were no lasting effects but it didn't half make me jump.
