Absolutely. Some people think I am crazy for going out into the swamp but I'm not that crazy. I am very careful when I am out there and a telephoto lens is by best friends for pictures of gators.
Some intereting articles Candy. They backup my experiences of spiders in the garden and house. A couple of years ago there was one in one of the waterbutts outside. When I first came across it when taking water it was very scared and scuttled well away. After a while it barely moved unless I surprised it. I used to say heelo to warn it when I was about to take the lid off the butt. I don't know whether it understood anything at all but sure seemed to learn.
Love for the most part. Jumping spiders are the cutest little things! I find a lot of them to be either cute or pretty with either their colors or patterns.. and the ones with webs are sometimes so intricate. They are fascinating... We have a catch and release program in our household for spiders ;p We do not squish.
The only ones I don't love are the ones that can kill me. I'll leave them alone if they leave me alone, though.

They don't seem so keen on new houses, is my experience.
My 'ye olde house' was full of monster spiders.
I think it is the way things progress as nature takes over. As a house gets older then things increase, unless kept in check. A new house has lots of solvent smells etc which my put them off as well.
Speaking of spiders. We have this tiny little spider than can get into anything. It's not dangerous but it does like to build a wec and you can see all these little cocoons of the other insects that they caught. I don't have any in my house but every once in awhile there is an explosion of them on my lanai which just happened I had to call our pest control to come in and take care of them.

I found a nest of spiderlings in my apartment: I was scared. I hated doing it, but I had to kill them: I couldn't have a hoard of young spiders wandering around my apartment. A mother spider had obviously laid her eggs in the corner of my lounge. I am sorry to her, but I had no choice.
I really DO NOT want spidereggs/spiderlings in my home. I don't mind spiders as a general rule, but not like that.

A mass of spiderlings makes me jump but it's seldom they occur in the house.
Perhaps the more irritating, and occasionally painful, are ants. When they decide to explore and invade the house they can be very irritating. They don't like being pushed about either and their bite can be painful, although not in a big way. That is one time when chemical warefare seems to be essential. We have lots of them around the garden in the summer. I have noticed different species in various areas of the garden.

They tend to like a sandy soil, so are most often found near paving.
There has been an outbreak here although quite a few miles from me. It was apparently brought into the country though. We have too many small mammals in comparison to reptiles so we would be more like the northeast there. Ticks are an increasing issue these days.
It has made me wonder, in the past, how many unknown species I have come across and not recognised as such
or stomped on.
That ^^ angers me so much... We go to nature reserves a lot just now the snowdrops crocus and other early blooms are coming up...Despite signs asking people to stick to the paths cyclists, jogger, and people with kids are notorious for going 'off path, ' they cut through shrubbery and head off the paths to explore, run about or cycle over 'more challenging' areas..
On a recent trip we noticed that over half of the crocus blooms had been mowed into the mud but who knows what other rare fungi or small creature has been wiped out in their pursuit of a fun weekend outing..
