Well bad light and a long way off but there was no mistaking the shape of the head or that wingspan that was like a front door.. An eagle.. imgur.com/5RneP2k
Plus a cute white bird that we think may be a cattle egret?

There is nothing better than seeing an owl hover silently over a roadside dyke at dusk. I have never been lucky enough to have a camera when I have seen them though.
I read somewhere that soldiers learn to sleep while on long marches.
I remember times when I have been able to pretty much totally switch off (maybe doze) for short periods while otherwise be essentially awake and even standing. On a long walk, if I get totally shattered but want to keep going, I do that, almost a zombie or trance like state but still with it in a moment. I could keep going for miles like that. Just switch out the pain.

I think we have all experienced something like that.
Still considering fireworks for new year? This 20 minute film shows things from a dogs perspective . From the morning to midnight, Stress levels rising and the frantic search for a 'safe' place to hide. About 12 minutes in. If anyone thinks a dogs stress is due to the owner watch from 14,30 and just see how wildlife and livestock is affected. No owner caused that reaction, there is no coddling or babying just sheer basic panic and fear.. If you love animals , leave the fireworks in the box,…

I am so happy, our firework shooters MOVED this month! The ones next to us that shot them into our yard. Here's hoping whoever moves in there next won't start it back up.

This morning a little before 8am we headed out and along a country road we caught sight of a hare just sitting by the side of the road, we slowed just in case he ran out infornt of us but he didnt move..Then we noticed a shape next to him. We stopped and still he didnt move , he just sat there staring straight ahead..
Eventully as OH got out of the car he ran into the field and finally left his companion who had obviously been hit by a car. The companion was dead and cold but OH moved the body into the field so that if he wanted to continue his vigil he wouldnt be at risk of another nintendo driver.
We often see animals that have been hit by cars ( often I think deliberatly) but this was the first time Id seen a companion standing watch.. I found that even sadder than the death of a perfectly healthy hare

I hate to see any animal get hit by a car. Fortunately most people try to avoid them but what makes it worse is I know you are right. I have seen people swerve to hit them. What kind of sick people are they?
