How did we arrive in this time when we cannot simply define what a woman is? I'm not sure if you know what I mean but it's pretty everywhere now. Is this a language problem? My mother tongue clearly knows what a woman is and thank God we don't also have the complexity of "pronouns." Or, is this about cancel culture, driving people to stick to their guns and common sense? Since when we stop believing the truth about ourselves for the sake of "be kind" which actually being misused and abused?
The direction of any discourse depends on how someone put their ideas into words. Our assumptions are valid as its ours and ours alone and when they are challenged, it may be proved valid or not.
Perhaps, I should have been more clear in my introduction. The topic of this thread is contentious, I admit. The questions begged to be answered are not attacking anyone, though. The questions raised are seeking answers supported by fundamentals and not opinions. Neither convictions. It is because when a subject matter as this is discussed unintelligibly and away from the conceptual aspect, it becomes problematic. It becomes NOT FUN at all. It loses its direction, which is talking about the fundamentals and concepts, not the people.
I raised the question in hope to get some intellectual discussions here, not opinionated. IF this isn't anyone's cup of tea, sure, skip it.
Maybe, next time, I'll open a thread about how much a kilo of tomatoes in the region now. That's a safe thread.

Please is it really going to hurt you personally ? Hurt? That's a loaded word.
NO then leave people the heck alone.. I do most of the time especially if they're not reasonable.
As long as they are nice polite and harmless I dont give a flying fig what they call themselves. Good on you.
[br
Hurt is not a loaded word it is quite simple has anyone from that community done you personal hurt or harm?
If not why do you feel the need to wade in on them? do you not think they have suffered enough abuse emotionally and mentally , do not think they face daily discrimination without people like yourself having an agenda against them.
Quite often these Media hype stories like the, we should all be called "chest feeders" are not born from the trans community, infact quite often they come from places of hate and they are designed to whip up a media storm. As for being reasonable most people are reasonable until they feel that someone is out to get them and then of course they defend themselves and I don't blame them for that.
Clarification: "I do most of the time especially if they're not reasonable." --- I was referring to people in general in this answer although particular group of people slid in the discussion. "Hurt? That's a loaded word." - it is loaded as there is a shift of the use of this word purportedly towards me as a person.
It is unfortunate on my part to be seen or compared (even online) with as having an agenda against the minority. I am in a minority. I know what discrimination is. Not because of textbooks, stories on social media, stories by people being discriminated or claims by some experts in social science. I've lived with it. I've experienced it. I do not have the intention to discriminate anyone. In my knowledge, I have disagreed to some people's own beliefs or principles in life but I have not discriminated anyone.
My 45 year old inquisitive mind doesn't stop asking the "why" and "how" around me. I blame my father and my mentors But, I also thank them, too. My husband love it. My former lover loved it (although I think she still does as we still regularly share each other's ideas of life, both in general and particular aspect).
If anyone has ideas substantiated with studies/data, or fundamentals/theories, please care to chime in. Otherwise, just skip and hop out and watch the telly instead.

In my opinion, if a person feels happy and comfortable being a woman or a man, that's what defines them. The anatomy is secondary. If anyone says a woman must be able to reproduce, this is not a good definition because there are women having this problem. Again, this is my opinion.

Annie, yes we have and have tried a couple of things but nothing has worked so far. Even though we refuse to give up I think we might start looking at adopting.

You might want to wait until John is completely well before making decisions. Just my two cents.

Annie, this is something we have been talking about for awhile now. Any final decision we make won't be done without a lot of thought.
When it comes to pronouns, why all the hubbub? Seems all a lot to do about nothing.
I could talk to a person for hours with only using the second-person “you”.
If you want to share your personal pronouns with me, fine, just don’t ask me mine. We can converse amicably without having to accept the same ideology.
Why aren’t the people pushing the “pronoun agenda” not worried about a person not yet "ready to come out”? Or a person still unable to pick their identity?
Just because I am a realist and my pronouns obvious, doesn’t mean I should feel obligated into declaring mine. OK by YOU?

Ahem, although, I'm not a moderator (where are you all? , hehehe, and where is Cherry, btw? On holiday leave?), I shall remind everyone to keep this thread respectful and objective as much as possible. I acknowledged being responsible since I started this thread.
I don't understand the current complications of using the right pronouns other than its correct grammatical use. I can't weigh in to it since my mother tongue doesn't share the complexity it posits with some individuals being called their preferred pronouns in English language. My brain somehow doesn't regard any strong link to it although I speak English. Hence, my brain does not recognise a weighted problems to call anyone their own pronouns as they wish. I can call you whatever you want if that's what you wish. Not calling you for what you wish and prefer for is being impolite unless you want me to call you a controversial name (Hitler, for instance) that I should be wary of.
I'll probably have a hard time remembering to use the "they" and might end up using the person's name repeatedly, instead. Non-native English speakers (like me) may have studied English for years and adhere to communicate in English using correct grammar (we strive to be grammatically correct until we bleed our nose ) and using "they" on a singular person wouldn't make sense to us. If educators and lawmakers strive to make this a standard teaching in present generation of students learning English (native and non-native), then, I can see that it would be the norm in the future of English language.
Having said this, I think it's a good idea to make another thread about use of pronouns, Pris. Again, for intellectual discussions. I can share what I have read and discovered personally if this is a kind of discussion members would like to discussed with. It doesn't have to be specific to people who wish to be called "they" or "he" to a "she" or "she" to a "he." There are some political hubhub about the use of pronouns even before (woke). It's quite interesting and informative.
