I swear its one thing or another with the school and my kid. Just received an email from his teacher as a heads up that its been noticed including by his fellow students of an odor, an overall unclean smell not a fecal smell. a fecal smell maybe due to a medication condition he has that acts up at times. I asked the teacher, is it any certain time of day, like say after lunch after he's been running around and playing. Nope its pretty much all day starting with the email.
today was my son's 1st day back to school after a teacher training day off and a suspension day... and now this... I told the teacher. I'll say what I can do about the shoes, maybe odor eaters (really smelly). but he had a shower this morning, he had on clean clothes and he used deodorant prior to leaving for school (he gets a ride and doesnt walk), so I honestly dont know what else to do or why he has this smell supposedly.
Hm, that is odd. Maybe he will need to bring deodorant to school and reapply throughout the day? No deodorant lasts long on me, I have to reapply a lot.
Aside from that, then yes, I'd go with it maybe being his feet/shoes. My brother uses baby powder in his, but I wouldn't recommend that as it has a pretty strong scent, too.... but it sure does kill odors and absorb the moisture.

You need a friend that you can trust to tell you the truth. Is he going though puberty?
Chances are his feet are smelly if so, buy some potassium permanganate from your local pharmacy, it is really cheap.
Mix enough in warm water to turn the water pink, then wsh his feet in it for about 10 minutes, that will kill off most of the bacteria that is mixing with the sweat and breeding, before giving off the gas that people are complaining about.
This is not a cure, though. You will have to do it regularly, maybe even daily. Once he gets past puberty, it will fade.
A light sprinkle of talcum powder will help in shoes and socks. Avoid man made fibres, go for cotton socks and leather shoes. Ideally, and I know it is expensive, alternate shoes every day so they have a chance to dry out.

I'm thinking its puberty... thats one thing about parenting a boy on my own, I honestly dont know some of this... but he's been noticing hair recently.
thanks for all the advice
Went to the store today after school and got him a new backpack, his old one had some stains and things like that, possibly musty smelling. Also bought odor eaters at least to start with. he hasnt been wearing socks with his shoes, so bought him new socks. although they get lost incredibly fast. new underwear. he's been told shower each day, new underwear each day and clean clothes each day. however he's at an age where he wear whatever is comfortable or his favorite, doesnt care if its clean or not.
checked his deodorant and it is antiperspirant. But I may try for one thats strong with the stopping of the sweating, like 24hr type protections or stronger protection. his soap/shampoo is not antibacterial. I read where that may help some too.
oddly enough I swear when his head/hair get sweaty, its a really bad smell of all places
just out of curiosity how long does this puberty odor last? If thats what it is. I cant imagine he's the only kid in school with this problem. but he's in small groups of kids for most of his education so it maybe more noticeable at times.
It is about the same for boys as girls, except that girls, on average, start and finish younger.
Maximum average length will be about to 21, but most are over by about 19. He will probably take after you or his father for length.
However, like spots, there will probably be a larger phase of odour, rather than all the way through. Just keep in mind that the problem is really too much sweat, and the odour is only from the bacteria growing in the sweat.
The cleaner he is, the less he will sweat, but the cleaner he is, the more likely he is to develop spots.
Pubescent teenagers are best "controlled" by peer pressure. If his mates are using showers daily, anti perspirants and wearing cotton socks you can bet he will want to.
I think some people go through stages of 'smelling' i had a friend at school, she used to really smell of sweat, like horrible sweat, everyone used to think she didnt shower, but when i started staying at her house she would shower on a night and a hour later smell of real bad BO. i thought this cant be possible, fresh sweat doesnt smell, so why does she?
My sissy is the same, shes 16 and she smells of BO alot, my mum said with her its sometimes straight from the shower she startss to smell.
2 of my OHs sisters also have a BO problem, one worse than the other, one is about 26 the other 21, they literally stink the room out, i obv dont judge them or say anything bcos some people do just smell no matter what, but when she comes over to my house sometimes she can be there for 5 mins and the smell lasts, idk what it is i thought maybe hormones, that makes sense with my sissy but not with the older ladies
since i had M i also smell of BO quite fast, even if i dont sweat, again i guess this is to do with hormones
When life hands you lemons, make grape juice then sit back and watch as the world wonders how you did it.
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ‘til tomorrow For babies grow up we've learnt to our sorrow, So quiet down cobwebs Dust go to sleep I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep

thanks for all the suggestions... we'll see how this goes... definitely wasnt ready for puberty and boys. the smell thats been an off and on issue for a while even before puberty given one of his medical conditions. for his size... since he's adopted its nearly impossible to tell. his mom I believe was 5'5" but based on infant f/u appts with a pediatrician and how they chart the circumference of the head and related items... they originally told me probably 5'10 top out. he is stocky for his size. and is overweight. abt 5' even right now. big for his age.
I've also asked his PE teacher if he can keep a hand towel in his PE locker to use after PE to wipe off the excess sweat and maybe even a "stickup" for inside the locker to control the smell there. apparently someone at school told him abt the socks too.
Hi Alexi....I remember when I was in like 3rd grade there was a girl who had a definite odor. She was teased by the kids. Her mother told the teacher that she had some sort of a medical condition that contributed to it.
One way to change this is through diet along with the other suggestions.
Kind of....I am not having to wear my heated gloves and dad's old Air Force coat (it's warm!) to walk the dog.....but I am still wearing my thermal underwear....(woo-hoo! sexy!!!)
