I'm afraid that I have nothing to confess, as I wasn't that imaginative. The most rebellious things I've done against my mother's wishes were to have my hair cut and pierce my ears.
i always liked the goth look but i lived right slam bam in the middle of bible thumping country. the employers frown on that kinda stuff back home. i woulda been an awesome goth chick. *grins*

Are you my daughter?
I brought her up to 'rebel' with her music and hair.....
With me, I think that it was more like that I didn't get as extreme as I really wanted. It's like punk using a bin liner or the total Goth thing. I have done both punk and goth to some extent but always a bit toned down. I love dressing up and don't mind shocking people at times but I suppose, similar to Cherry, there were always factors, professional and otherwise, capping things a little.
There is also the time / motivation. For a while now I have been interested in an Edwardian look. I have a good repro Edwardian blouse and have a pattern for one of the long skirts but have not got round to making it. The boots might prove a problem as, although it's possible to buy them, spending a lot on something seldom worn would not be. A hat is readily available online. With this one I might not do because I don't find time to, but you know how it goes

I have a pair of Edwardian style boots. They are black, lace up, mid calf length. They have kitten heel and a side zip. I got them for a fancy dress second hand off ebay. Being Clarks, they are well made and comfy. Less than £10 I think..
I suppose the one time I was really tempted was Annie Lennox in the sweet dreams video. She had such power and commmand..
I also went a bit goth.. No black hair ( that went too far for my poor mum) but the DM's the black clothes the leather jacket the nails in lurid colours and the black eye make up..
Punk didnt do it for me that much.. But the Two Tone stuff I loved.. The music and the outfits..

We went to a steam punk night a few years back, oh dear, I just looked it up, it was 11 years ago.
Anyway, we were rather disappointed. Steam punk, for us, was all about making the look, and it was a well worn look, reflecting the pioneer spirit of what steam punk was. But no! Most were wearing well ironed, shiny new steam punk clothes, and you suspected that for miles around all the steam punk shops were now bereft of any stock.
It was a great night out though, and Abney Park were great.

Thank you, yes it was maybe the local steam punk events which occur here in Lincoln annually which were some inspiration, as well as the 'Murdoch Mysteries' detective series on the TV. I have found some of the sites / companies online which is how I know even complete outfits are available.
I bought the Edwardian blouse for myself to wear when I am out with the art group in summer drawing. The high neck reduces the possiblilty of sunburn and being white is reflects the sun. Also, being cotton, it isn't as warm as you would think. Although other wear goes with it, picturing myself as the Edwardian lady sketching in places such as the castle grounds in Lincoln, where we have been, is appealing.
This is imaginarium which is near us , weve been a few times its not just steam punk its a bit of all fantasy costume. But its great all ages all types all sorts of costumes and styles..

Yes, I have noticed similar with steam punk. That points to one issue in that many online suppliers tend toward cosplay rather than quality wear. That is why I have a skirt pattern rather than buy online although the company I got the, good quality, blouse from did supply skirts (I think they no longer do). My aim, as I imply in other posts, is as much to do with function as presentation and so quality needs to be good but at a manageable price. For interest - The skirt, when I last saw it was priced at around £95, if I remember correctlly. I roughly priced up some material to make one (quality linen). It was about £30, and is suggested a relitively easy make so worth it if I can find the time lol

I invested in a pair of dark blue jeans... Shock! Horror! BUT they were proper jeans that fit and have class. They cost £79, so they aren't cheap looking tat. I definitely avoid faded and ripped jeans. *shudder*
I had thrown out all my previous jeans, so this is the first pair I own. I didn't buy it from a mainstream shop either: I bought it from a local small boutique. I tried them on and they fit perfectly.
I won't wear them all the time - I still wear my dresses and skirts - but I don't want to limit myself in any way, fashion-wise.

I like faded and/or ripped jeans, though I accept I am now too old for the ripped.

Ripped jeans? They are so 70's. See it as 'they are too old for you'

Reminds me of the Renaissance festivals we have. I once wore a vampire halloween costume to one because it actually kind of fit in lol just didn't add any fangs.

I am wearing a dress every day. I do love my dresses. I have around half a dozen dresses in my wardrobe: and they are worn regularly. I also love wearing skirts. I am very much into fashion. Plus, you only live once: so why waste time in boring clothes? Sure: I understand where clothes are appropriate and not appropriate. But I like having fun with my look.
