An interesting point. I presume they are made for many languages so maybe they can be programmed?

I don't have one and am not really interested but when I visited my stepson a short while back he demonstrated his. I found it interesting how much things had advanced over the last few years. The response was logical rather than just dismissive but I cannot remember exactly what it said when I asked it to self destruct. It was something along the lines of not being programmed to I think (it was very Star Trek'y)

Apperently they can be quite sensitive. My daughjter has one and it didit respond well to her husbands commands to turn on light so one day he lost his temper and swore at it now its blocked him and wont respond to him at all!

Ive got a feeling she has reprogrammed it he kept turning the heating up this way she has control !

I love that they play music similar to who you ask for. We also use them a lot as reminders and alarms, also calculators, dictionaries, and general knowledge.

Love it.. you sound like my husband.. If I say app me he is like what the heck is an app ? Why cant I just phone you and why do phones look like chopping boards and whats with the little smiley things and why the hell do I need a smart speaker I just ask you....

He amused my sons friend who had a car that wasnt running right,.. He lifted the bonnet took a large screwdriver and listened to each set of valves in turn then pointed and said there thats the problem.. They guy couldnt believe you could hear the problem without the aid of a computer.. Sometimes old school is not so crazy

Think of smart speakers like a talking encyclopaedia. You ask it a question, it will give you the answer. No computer knowledge required.

If you are cooking it is great, you ask it how long stuff needs roasting for. You ask it to tell you when 40 minutes time is up so you can empty the oven. It also plays music by request.

All this for £20.

What's not to like?
