I usually make a grocery list as I often forget things. I have a standardised list for holidays which reduces the possiblity of me forgetting anything. It's then easy to vary it as required. I made one up for the shopping but OH refused to use it and as either of us may start the list it never worked.
If I am working on a project I often make lists. They may just be as simple as lists of equipment but may run to lists of tasks which may be better described as algorithms as they get to looping as well as sequential lists. Thats unlike the simple item lists as in the shopping example which is probably all you mean.
I write a shopping list every week and I have a standard one for my Germany shopping they are both devided into the shop Im, going to and then for each shop I write what I want if I have coupons I make a not of that too.
I jot down names of films of shows that I think might interest OH and put them next to his PC so that he can check things out. If Im involved in a project I might write a to do list.

At Christmas I write my gift list and card list..
This is something I must do. I think lists are very important and very useful. I - sometimes - make a list, but that is seldom.
Now that I am shopping online.. I don't really make grocery lists as much, but I probably need to because sometimes I forget items we are out of... not that it's a big deal.. once I remember, and it's something I need, then I'll go get it lol
I have also used lists for packing before trips to be sure I don't forget essentials.
Very rarely have I made to-do lists for work or something.. it's more like little reminders on a note app on my computer than a list.

I think lists are great: when they're not ignored and are always followed through.
Some people make lists, then don't bother doing all on the list. That annoys me. It is much, much better to get things DONE, then have a list you only do half of. Still, I applaud anyone who sticks to their lists and DOES get it all done. That is the goal, at the end of the day.

I find that a list is a guide. I mostly follow them through but often there is good reason to deviate. A good example would be my shopping list. It may well have meat listed but if the supermarket has a good offer on fish then I change. In that way I may as well just write 'fruit and veg' rather than itemise things but it gets more complicated as itemisation implies amounts. A list may not be as simple as it first appears
I love lists! So helpful for organising, and I love to organise.
There's a cool novel called Annie's Life in Lists. The main character also loves lists, and she tells the whole story that way. I didn't think it was going to work for a whole book, but it totally does! (Which reminds me of another one I didn't think would work: a book done just in text messages. I think the title was Technically You Started It.)
depends on the day and how much i have to do and whether i'm at work or not. but yes...i write lists. i'm also a huge fan of note taking to avoid forgetting something or missing something that's a necessity.

That sounds like an extremely good book.
I think it's great you make lists, Rebecca: I often wonder why I don't. But you definitely have the right approach! I do like being organized myself: getting things done is very important to me. And things that need to be done is an ongoing task.

Lists saved my butt last week. Appointments to cancel, phone calls to make, etc. I was able to get that all done plus tend to the sick kid. Not as much to sort out by the time the second kid got sick, since we were already planning on being home to keep the yuckies away from people...
I think lists might also be a great way to get the kids to stay on track better - ADHD makes it hard to remember what they've done and need to do, so if they embrace lists and organisation, they won't feel frustrated as often.

That sounds tough, Rebecca: you are managing to cope, however. But you must be run off your feet. I hope you find time to rest and recharge your batteries.

Rest may not be included on the actual lists, but it gets a top spot in my mind - the place for the unwritten lists. I always take time to read fiction as a way to wind down just before sleep, and I'm usually relaxing for a couple hours before that, with TV or writing or more reading! (I wasn't so great at getting enough rest when I did my schooling online a few years ago, and would use the evenings for any schoolwork I hadn't fit in the daytime.)

Funnily enough, Rebecca, I read a good novel yesterday afternoon: I do a LOT of reading. Sometimes I have to stay up at night just to finish a novel. There are days I am run off my feet and simply don't have the time to read. I try to make time now, however. I also think reading keeps the mind active and healthy.
A dear old friend - Michael - loved to read. And he had a head injury. He was forever reading: perhaps that is why we were so close.
