If you really havent slept for 3 weeks then you have set a new world record. the present one being 11 days 17 hours.
Its not possible, to function after that amount of sleep loss so like most insommniacs you are sleeping but you just dont realise it or its not happening when you want it to.

I'd go mad - I'd lose my sanity - if I went without sleep. And I know this from experience. Many years ago, I went without sleep for 3 days: I lost the plot and became panicky, sweaty, listless. I felt absolutely awful having the sweats and the shakes. I knew then I needed to sleep every night. I cannot function on little or no sleep.
Also, I don't feel guilty anymore when I have a lie-in. I just lie in bed and feel refreshed when I do finally wake up.
A lot of my patients never sleep, but on closer examination, they admit to missing evenings in front of the telly
I'm glad you said that, because when I have too little sleep, I will go for a daytime nap. Plus, I don't think the brain and body is able to fully go without sleep. For most people, 12 hours on the go is enough to induce sleep.
I'd say really going without sleep for so long is rare.
