One was to cultivate, and grow space gardens, especially with various strains of rice.
Gardens utilize gravity here on earth.
Seeds need to determine up from down so it can develop roots downward to soil and sprouts upward toward sunlight and fresh air..
Space, offering no gravity, needs to create it artificially if we are to survive a pandemic food loss via a space garden.
Also, most of our pharmaceuticals remain plant derived.
This is all actually plausible, complicated, and more interesting than fiction.
They even developed robotic bees for pollination.
