I saw a perfect floor plan from a semi-custom homebuilder. Problem is, he builds on 2.5-acre lots...too big and expensive to keep up. I haven't yet given him a call to see what he can do for me, land-wise.
In some places over there I suspect a reinforced basement is a good idea in tornado season. In other places though perhaps too likely to flood.
In my work I occasionally came across bungalows specifically designed for disabled people and their wheelchairs. Usually owned by someone who has aquired a large compensation payout. It may sound a bit over the top but I would love one as there is usually so much space and access for moving almost anything. No tight right angle turns and narrow corridors. They usually look pretty normal from the outside too. For anyone about to get their own place designed it's not a bad idea to haave a look around one if possible. Although many of the switches and things are fitted much lower, for access, they actually do work well for fully able people too. When I mentioned my bungalow above I had this type of thing in mind too.
