Would you? If it was your money and your job that made that money, would living in a mansion appeal?
Personally for me: no. I'd have to employ staff to clean the mansion. There'd be too much space for me to be alone: one person rattling around in a mansion? And what on earth would I do with myself all day? I will always live in an apartment. I'd never live in a mansion: or even a large house. It's a job in itself.
No we are looking to downsize now from 4 bedrooms why on earth would we want a mansion?
I have always said if we won the lottery I would buy a nice large house that had an annexe so that my husband and I could live in the annexe and my daughter and her husband could live in the house that way when I get old and grey I'd still have someone on hand to help me out. I must admit I would like a little bit of land because it's always been my dream to have some pygmy goats.

LOL @ Dream to own pygmy goats. So sweet.
Yes, put me down for the mansion experience. I will take te title 'lady of the manor' too.

Oh I already have the title but the goats are so sweet I love goats they are just like naughty puppies..
A nice large bungalow for me with a reasonable garden and double garage in a quiet area. A mansion would be Ok but most would be cold and require an army of staff to organise.
It's not goats for me, although I love them. I prefer those little horses.

Oh little horses are very cute we see some of those when we go to the hotel walk they're not Shetland ponies they are proper little horses but only about the size of a Labrador dog...

I don't want a mansion. Having the money for it doesn't mean I need it. Some people like to just show off their wealth, but I do not. The house we have is already large enough, and I could be okay with smaller even; it's just a common size in this area. I wouldn't mind having acres of land, though.. to feel more isolated.

Nope, not me. I currently live in a small house, and I'm actually thinking about UPsizing in my old age...by over 1000 sqft. I want enough open area to use a wheelchair, if need be. The problem is that homebuilders here rarely build them that "small" anymore. It's rare to see a 2000 sqft single-story home. The ranch homes almost always have a basement, in which the furnace, water heater and other 2 bedrooms are. The whole idea behind a one-story house is to not have stairs!
I saw a perfect floor plan from a semi-custom homebuilder. Problem is, he builds on 2.5-acre lots...too big and expensive to keep up. I haven't yet given him a call to see what he can do for me, land-wise.

If I did have vast wealth, I would not show it off with a mansion. So I agree with all of you there. No: having a mansion takes a lot of staff and a lot of upkeep. Plus, in this day & age mansions aren't nearly so desired as say they were in the 1980's. Material wealth is still desired, but in a different way.
Personally, I define wealth by my job rather than the size of my property. I define wealth by my standing in society and just being a nice person. Which is more important than having loads of money. There is nothing wrong with having - or wanting - money but it isn't the be-all and end-all of life.

In some places over there I suspect a reinforced basement is a good idea in tornado season. In other places though perhaps too likely to flood.
In my work I occasionally came across bungalows specifically designed for disabled people and their wheelchairs. Usually owned by someone who has aquired a large compensation payout. It may sound a bit over the top but I would love one as there is usually so much space and access for moving almost anything. No tight right angle turns and narrow corridors. They usually look pretty normal from the outside too. For anyone about to get their own place designed it's not a bad idea to haave a look around one if possible. Although many of the switches and things are fitted much lower, for access, they actually do work well for fully able people too. When I mentioned my bungalow above I had this type of thing in mind too.
My stepmother now lives in a flat apartment design for 55 +. Here in the Netherlands all homes designed for 55 + residents must have level floors with no steps between rooms and doors wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs, they normally have walk in showers or wet rooms with enough room for wheelchair maneuvering in the bathroom. Most of these types of houses also have video or or telephone connection to the front doors so that you do not have to open the door to find out who is there and the door can be opened automatically from the comfort of your living room.

One story ranch house, 2500 sft, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 2 fireplaces with a large yard complete with a bocceball court and a trampoline, that's what I am aiming at now. Hopefully, I can move in next month.

I like it! Only a few things that will work for me, The laundry room should be close to the hallway bathrooms or bedrooms and the bedrooms as well as the dining room should face out to the courtyard.

Any news as of yet?
The President guy told me he would commit to the 10/15 deadline Cherry, I just came back last night so we will visit the house today to see how much more has been done, it less than a month from 10/15. My landscaper's mom just passed away so the landscape work will be delayed and the window treatment lead time is now further away by 2 weeks

I agree. When hubby and I first examined the floor plan, I said that we could probably do without that extra WIC ell, and make that the laundry area. It would be closer to the origin of almost all the dirty laundry.
It will be interesting to see how much they've gotten done after you reinforced the deadline. What kind of window treatments are they? Privacy, or purely decorative? I could live without the decorative treatments. Depending on the location and positioning of the house, I might not fare so well without privacy. I don't think my neighbors would enjoy it, either.

I feel we have very similar goals when it comes to our own domain At my age, I like practical things so we will have the white plantation shutters throughout, not wood either, just plastic for easy cleaning and maintenance. One thing we like about this lot is that once we are inside the house and in our backyard, we have complete privacy, with just a few tall trees, we can certainly accomplish that.

You're very lucky, alsr: having complete privacy must be wonderful.
Because - as you know - I don't have that by living in an apartment. People are constantly coming and going. There is always noise and activity. Thankfully I like it that way BUT many others don't. I'd say you ARE lucky, alsr: enjoying your home without neighbours on your doorstep night and day IS great.
