Instead of a paper diary.

I keep everything digital these days. And am glad I am living in th 21st century. I keep my accounts on my computer. I keep my food diary on the computer. I keep my poetry on my computer. I have kept my journal on my computer since 2001. I have 12 folders for each month.

Folder 2001

January - Journal Section 1

February - Journal Section 2

etc.

Folder 2002

January - Journal Section 1

February - Journal Section 2

etc.

This is a great way to have a diary.

But that's the way the world is, James: if you don't look like you deserve that desk, you're not going to get that desk.

technology's amazing, however: I always think it's important to have backups of things.

I have, for example, a lot of music on my computer. I also have a lot of cds still, and sometimes people look at me strangely: like who buys cds anymore?

I also have sticky notes around the house to help me remember things, a paper diary (though I've not written in it for quite some time), and a wall calendar.

I just think it's good to be prepared. if the computer breaks down, then that's everything lost

Sometimes it feels good to physically write out my problems even more than typing. I like both ways, though, and growing up I had a physical diary and a few online!

I don't really have a diary at the moment. I just intrude on everyone else's on here and share my similar stories or experiences if it comes up ;p

If you don't, I strongly suggest that you keep good backups of all your information. Murphy's law operates everywhere and it is inevitable that a computer will go wrong at some point. It has caught me out before and your post does remind me that I never seem to be up to date. If someone steals your computer it amounts to the same thing.

I keep most things digital too, to limit paper useage, but it does feel more natural to use pen and paper. We use old envelopes delivered in the post for shopping lists etc, although I can see the value of a list on a smartphone.

I do agree about computers going wrong: it does happen.

Anyhow, a diary - whether physical or on a computer - is a great way to record memories and the suchlike!

Emily is not the only one who buys CDs still. I do! I like to have the physical item, especially if it's not going to be in a streaming service's catalogue at some point. Only issue is space to store the CDs...

Someday I plan to write a diary/journal again. I don't usually feel I have too much to sort out that way, but you never know, my mind could be holding back on me.

I write a diary/journal because it's therapeutic. I have done so on a computer since 1998. Documenting my life is important to me: and always will be. I design the WORD documents myself, too: I use different fonts, different coloured page backgrounds and various Internet pictures. I guess I am a designer in that sense.
