Feeling ok today I had bad backache yesterday.. My friend got a wheelchair thats supposed to fit in the car !
Someones having a laugh the darn thing weighs 18kilo and only just fits in my Peugoet 2008..
There are some really lights ones around.........
I know , mum had one that folded up nicely and weighed less that 10kilo, my friend has this one on loan for 6 months (by which time I might need one myself!) At some time within the 6 months she will be offered a permenant one and Ive said we need to make sure its a lightweight one that fold properly for the car so we are going to go along to the wheelchair place together..

I used to provide management services at one of our hospitals. Hospital wheelchairs are not very popular. The problem is that the managers like them to be serviceable and repairable. This type tend to be more sturdy, and so heavier. This cuts down on maintenance, but also on useability.
She might be better off buying a lightweight second hand one?
I just checked out ebay, most of them seem to go for £50 - £75.

I remember taking mum out before covid put a stop on things. Her NHS wheelchair was a bit unwieldy and pretty heavy to lift into the car although it did fold up OK. I compare that to one of the sporty types I tried at a convention. It was so light and twitchy that you could place it anywhere, but it would need time to get used to lol. Not really for someone who needs support though.

could be better here. tired and hurting from work. glad i'm off today. read an article in the washington post that spoke of something called pacing for the covid fatigue that hangs around. mine isn't gone but comes and goes now. out of the last 3 days...saturday was the worst. i have to slow down when i'm working. if i keep a slow steady pace i manage better. most of my energy right now is from all the running back and forth to different areas pushing that heavy ass cart. the one they bought to try to appease the achc broke otherwise i'd ask to use that. it's plastic and way lighter. i might ask my supervisor if i can use her cart for a while. it's way lighter. either that or i'm unloading more supplies. it's ridiculous having to haul so much stuff.

I read that same article as well and immediately thought of you. Good luck with pacing.

Surely they all come with weight ratings?
I have no idea as it was not something I was directly involved in. The sporty one I mention was not NHS though. More like one of those you see wheelchair athletes in so very light carbon fibre probably.
In general though they have to be safe. The only one I saw which was a bit risky was one for a very small child. It had a narrow track and would have been much easier to tip sideways accidently as it was still relatively tall in comparison. If any equipment was fitted it also needed outriggers to improve stability.
I woke up with that annoying backache again today. It's been awhile so it came as a bad surprise.
No, I don't like suprises like that either. I hope it goes away quickly. Take it easy and gently stretch / massage it away (use your resident masseur ).

I do back exercises every day. It does help a lot.
i'm ok til i get up and start doing stuff. then i get all breathless again. it's a pain in the neck. i may hafta keep my eyes open for a job in health information management at work. they don't require classes. that would be a desk job. i didn't know they needed someone or that we just got on the job training or i'd have applied there. i'm gonna ask the gal i know in there if they still have any openings. can't hurt to ask.
