My mum did, when she was at home. It was refreshing to read her paper when I visited but, in general, I wouldn't have time to revue a printed newspaper daily. I like to read at leisure.
In a similar way, I think it will be older people who generally do.
Are you talking about the little slot that is in your front door? If so I am not sure if they use that system anymore.
If your mailboxes are actually controlled federally I wouldn't be surprised if you have to have a mailbox as they could never really control a slot in the door.
A quick glance showed me that it gets a little complicated. Over here a letter box is just a letter box although I suppose there is a standard somewhere. I did look a bit into the actual mailboxes and did see that they ship internationally but I suspect having a US mailbox over here would be pretty expensive. As far as I am aware the post office here would use it if it were sensibly placed though.
I'm in pain , my left leg feels as if someone is cutting it off with a blunt saw. Yesterday I was helping my husband and just stepping up stepping off of a trestle that's been enough to make my arthritis decide to play up.
I hope you both feel better soon. Luckily apart from an agonising leg cramp when I moved my leg too quickly in bed yesterday morning I am pretty much normal. That's not to say I am feeling a bit tired though

In Britain mail boxes are used in every single household and office buildings. Even though we're in the digital age, not everyone uses the Internet. I am lucky to have a computer/to have the Internet/to have email. There are so many people who aren't so fortunate. Still, I do read paper magazines and I do receive documents through the postal service.
The Internet is a godsend but it does take skill, intelligence and money to use the computer and use the Internet. We are all educated, so that is no problem for us. Others - again though - are not so lucky.

I feel really tired today. I am waiting for the engineer to fix my boiler, so can't go back to bed. I also have a doctor's appointment later today: I shall be mentioning my out-of-control breathing everytime I try to exercise or just go out for a walk.
Because I DO breathe heavily when walking anywhere and I walk slowly: I just can't walk quickly. Again, my breathing becomes very heavy and I gasp for air. It is not pleasant. And no: I am not overweight.
You can get a computer for $300 nowadays and some cities in the Bay Area are completely wired so I have to say, it is more than affordable to have computer and internet access here. I often see homeless people in this area sitting on the street browsing internet from their portable devices.
Over 22 years ago, when my son was 4 year old and in preschool, every time I came to pick him up, he and his friends were on the desktop browsing something most of the time. When he was in grade school, his class frequently required the students to do research on the internet.
