Street shoes in the home? Or how about barefoot, in socks, in hose, in slippers, etc.
With me, everything except street shoes is allowed. Street shoes stay at the door. Period. Not just me and my partner; the same goes for any and all visitors.
For me personally, a comfy pair of slippers are my first choice, but barefoot is a good second choice!
I wear shoes in my house that I have worn out of the house, but depends on the shoe. Sometimes I go out briefly in sandals or slippers (or just around the neighborhood), and I would wear those around the house more so still.. If it's sneakers or other shoes that I mainly only wear out of the house, then I don't tend to walk around with them in the house much at all.
I am barefoot, or with socks when cold, or with slippers that have sole support if standing and walking around a lot in the home.

I'm barefoot at home all year round. Footwear, and socks if I'm wearing them, come straight off at the door. I'll even happily wander barefoot around my garden. It's liberating.
I used to wear my shoes through the whole house unless they had mud or snow or yucky food stuck in them. Which happens sometimes in a commercial kitchen. Then COVID came along. Now everything gets stripped off in the living room before I move through the house. Uniforms go straight to the wash. Shoes remain by the door. I'm either socked up or barefoot.
I don't have carpet in my house and guests are limited to the living/dining/kitchen only therefore I don't ask them to take off their shoes, I always "swift" the floor after the visit.

I am picturing red tape over doors, and friends desperate to get home to use the toilet.
I wear slippers or go barefoot around the house. I tend to jog up the stairs and even down at times so it is less dangerous barefoot (although sometimes more painful lol). The house is well carpeted though. It varies with visitors although most leave there shoes at the door.

We have a dog.
I have seen the damage that dog hairs can do to feet. It isn't pretty.

One thing that was very odd to me growing up was seeing TV shows from the USA where the people were wearing their shoes indoors. Totally not the way we do it here in Canada! We take our shoes off just inside the door. Then it's socks, bare feet, or slippers depending on the person.
My parents bring their slippers here when they visit. I don't travel with my slippers, though, and I'm usually fine walking around someone's house with my socks (or bare feet if I had my sandals on before).
At home, I typically prefer light socks because I feel all the crumbs and dirt underfoot when I'm on the vinyl flooring. (Kids and their messes! Plus all the dirt in the hall from everyone walking with their shoes on until they get to the shoe closet that wasn't placed near the door, grumble grumble.) If my feet get too hot in the summer, I go barefoot and keep the broom handy! In the winter, I will wear slippers or thick socks if my feet are cold (which is often).

I usually do take my shoes off as soon as I get home. I always thought just about everyone did.
I wear my tennis shoes around the house. My heels come off after coming home from a long day at work. What gets me mad are people wearing work boots working on something in my home.Luckily some have use the plastic booties that go over the boots. One is my AC repair guy,he knows I don't like dirt on the floor

No street shoes in the kitchen area. It's the rule, no exception or you'll wipe the floor. We usually take our shoes off before entering the house and put them in the cupboard as long as they are dry and without visible soil/dirt.

It does get to be an issue in the winter as we tend to put shoes by the back door to dry before brushing them off. Muddy boots take forever in the winter and the accumulation of boots and shoes does get to be a problem

I got a covered deck so muddy boots and wet shoes go there. Once the shoes are dry in the morning, we put them in the cupboard.
I have no carpet in the house so I don't make my guests take off their shoes but their access is limited. My guest bathroom is very accessible to guests so they don't have to roam all over the house to get to it. As soon as my guests leave, the area will be mopped thoroughly. For overnight guests, I provide disposable indoor slide-on. I already keep about 20 pairs of them.

Some of our patients had them as they were susceptible to life threatening infections and worried. All visitors had to wear them. Mostly though it was just taking your shoes off in some houses.
We come and go via the back hall so our shoes get taken off outside or in the hall and I have a little wall hanging fold down stoel so its easy to sit and put shoes on..
I often walk around barefoot so I dont want mucky stuff on my floor.
BTW did you know when tested dog paws had less bacteria on them as opposed to their humans shoes... 28% of dogs had average 3,400 bacteria and 58% of human shoes with and average of 107,000 bacteria !

Proving dogs are cleaner than humans!
Even when they walk on the same path as their humans?
