Today I learned to be even more careful while down by the water. I was clearing a little water grass for the shore, with my good arm, and I almost grabbed a Water Moccasin that proceeded to slither between my legs and back into the water.

I am glad you are Ok. I presume locally there is quick treatment for bites? It must happen occasionally.

I'm a Slytherin, but snakes are a big nope for me.

Bites can be deadly but usually are not. They are very painful and the only thing that can be done is the use of anti-venom.

Never mind.
Once your shoulder is better you will be able to just catch them.
It would be an interesting place to visit. We used to have places with venomous snakes here but they are much rarer now as rules have changed limiting dangerous breeds. Anti-venom would only maybe be required for adder bites but it's likely it is rare - See link

A friend of mine was bitten by an adder twice. He was rather elderly, and my friend thinks it was what gave him a stroke, and his eventual death.

Oh wow ,nasty....
My daughter and son-in-law keep exotics. At the moment that includes several venomous snakes including spitting adders rattlesnakes and a couple of other very nasty things. However they have a strict protocol he only ever handles the snakes when someone's around but not in the snake room, he has an EpiPen at the ready and a full list of everything he keeps so that if he should get bitten there is a chance of getting him the correct anti-venom.

Karen the snake hunter. It does have a certain ring to it...
I learned that I need to check up on the youngest boy - often - if he's supposed to be getting dressed or doing anything else by himself in the bedroom. He was reading tonight while in the process of changing into pajamas, which means he barely had anything on as he looked at the book in front of him...
Ah, life with very distracted boys! Two of them already have ADHD diagnoses, and it's no wonder I suspect the third will also get the same label!

Hi Rebecca, when my son was a freshman in college, he came home for the holidays and told me he thought he had ADD, he told me his friend had it and was prescribed Vyvanse. His friend gave him a pill, he took it and felt better and it helped clear his head.
I took him to the doctor, the doctor refused to prescribe him anything, my son was upset. This friend graduated the following term and moved back to Australia so I knew he could not take his friend's pill. He was also on my policy so I knew what he was taking and his doctor knew he was not taking anything he should not. Quite a few doctors would draw that conclusion when the patients are absent-minded or can't focus. My son was the same, he was good with anything he was interested in but he did not care about anything else until he understood that it was his responsibility to do everything at least decently. Well, my son graduated from one of the top schools in the US with a degree in Computer Science Engineering at 21 and has been doing very well. It has been 5 years since he graduated from college and is still at the same organization, already three significant promotions.
What I would like to say is that you should get at least 2, 3 opinions, don't count on the first doctor who gave them that diagnosis. My father was a medical doctor, so are my two brothers and also my sister's son so we all get an earful on medical matters. Even if they really have ADD, do not enable them to use that as an excuse for not doing what they suppose to do, limitations are only become obvious if we keep reminding ourselves of them.
I learnt that no matter how peaceful things are you can still get big surprises. I was out on my walk and walking down a peaceful track behind a housing estate. All was quiet. On the main road to town, behind a hedge behind me, a passing lorry had something explode on it with a large bang. I'm not sure what happened as it went a way before it stopped. I saw the driver got out as he was wearing a high vis jacket. I couldn't see what was happening but thought I saw flames to it's rear. Shortly after it departed. Strange things
