with me, it really depends. if I'm trying to teach others something, or explain to others about something, I can be quite patient and quite understanding (and will do what ever it takes to help them understand). when people start abusing it though, or speaking rudely to me, I loose my patience quite fast
and I have absolutely no patience with myself. if I can't do something, I can't do it (which may explain my failure in school) and also, when I was given piano lessons, I only had 1 lesson..

Yes, I do. In fact, I have a great deal of patience. I have worked with the disabled and that requires a lot of understanding, as well as patience. Because you can't make someone understand something: they have to learn it for themselves. If I got impatient and angry, I wouldn't last long in that environment. The disabled need understanding and caring.
I am also patient when it comes to reading books. I can sit there for over 4 hours reading. I read "A Woman Of Substance" by Barbara Taylor Bradford in over 4 hours, in one sitting. I LOVE reading and have the patience of an angel.
I also don't rush decisions: I have to take time to follow through. I never rush into anything. I like to know what I'm getting into and know it is the right choice.
It very much depends on the situation. For years I worked as a home carer with old people you often have to listen to the same story every single week, but often they have no one else to speak to to so it's the least you can do and how hard is it really it's just 5 minutes of your day but to them it makes a lot of difference, someone listening to them.
However when it comes to liars or fools I have absolutely no patience. Yesterday a woman in a large SUV came towards me she had to overtake several vans parked on her side of the road so she was on my side of the road but she flashed at me as if to say that I should back up... no chance. I simply stopped and shook my head she did back up very very badly then she indicated that I should drive around her onto somebody's driveway again I shook my head and made her back up properly she wasn't pleased but thats tough she was in the wrong, she shouldn't have overtaken , she shouldn't have tried to force her way through. I have absolutely no patience for bad drivers if she can't drive the car she should have bought a bike.

HaHa! It reminds me of a similar incident a few weeks ago when I was in that position. A woman similarly started to come down the road against me with parked cars to the side. We stopped and looked at each other. She was obviously not going to move, but then another car came up behind me and she realised that she would have to. The look on her face It's one good reason that I avoid the city at busy times these days. Too many hassles.
I find that I rapidly run out of patience when I am tired. My job involved disabled people and I had to learn patience as, mentioned previously above, people do differ and giving training in using technology to someone who has maybe never used it takes time. Sometimes it did get irritating as the interventions can go on for weeks with some but you never lose patience, just get really tired and hopefully not take it out on someone else. Otherwise I just plod on lol
The best thing for trying my patience is IT going wrong. Within minutes I can find myself silently seething if it is defying my attempts.
I swear if I ever was foolish enough to look in the mirror, my face would be crimson, I would be spitting feathers, and steam would be coming out my ears....
I am not too bad helping others with IT problems, but reflecting, I am surprised i have never attacked my own with a hammer.

My DD has just had a promotion it means she no longer has to deal with customers...
A long time ago when she worked on helpdesk a man phoned yelling at her that all his online work had been lost because the computer had cut out and it was her fault as his internet provider.. She calmly asked him to check all the connections with her as she named them.. When she asked him to check the feed to the computer he said he couldnt see it.. Oh is the PC built in she asked... No.. he said we have a power outage ..
She said if he had been opposite her she would have mounted his head on the rotten PC

I'm a planner, so I tend to have less patience for those who don't plan and don't want to go along with sensible plans. However, I have to cultivate patience or no one will listen to those plans of mine... And yes, that's mostly with my kids.

Depends. If I'm in public I tend to be more patient, cause I don't really want to make a scene but if I 'get there', I'll just roll my eyes, leave and not deal with it. If Im at home, and something/ someone is pissing me off, nope. I will say what I need to say.

Again - because of the people I socialize with - I need a lot of patience. They find it hard to understand things and I need to be calm and understanding to help them.
If I saw red and started getting impatient and angry, I wouldn't last long with those people.
I am an extremely (even to a fault) patient person. That said, for people who are wilfully ignorant or purposely hurtful I have ZERO tolerance. I'm too old to put up with that type of behaviour.
When you are not being patient, what are you doing?
I tend to seethe quietly. I tend to grit my teeth, but I very rarely lose my temper. I do see people step back, so I suspect I have steam coming out my ears, and they think it is just a matter of time before I explode.

I can feel my blood pressure go up, my ears turn red. This does happen at work more than anywhere else.

Patience is lasting longer with me these days, since I have the perspective that what's happening in the moment isn't that important - it won't be something that matters long-term.
When I do get impatient, I tend to snap with my words and not give people long to talk. I correct or criticise. And then eventually, feeling hot and bothered literally!
Its been a week of fools, people on phones while driving, a taxi bus blocking my drive but the man was so into his phone that even when I gave him a toot he didnt look up, one guy coming the wrong way down the road at us and another at 6am without lights ( we flashed him and the idiot waved at us!) and then my neighbour coming round every 5 minutes asking for favours, she goes to OH because she knows he is a bit of a soft touch so I can see her and me having words...( Ive already told her he is ill)
Throughout all of this I've been calm.. But yesterday coming out of the supermarket following the one way circuit there was a car parked in the middle of the road.. He was just sat there.. So I rolled to a stop a bit behind him, then when he didnt move I gave a gentle toot toot I saw the driver look up and realising there were two women in the car behind him he jumped out pointed at me and waved his arms to indicate that I should pull round him via some of the empty parking bays.. He was holding his phone.. Then he made a face and gesture indicating that I was stupid crazy .. I pulled round him and as I did he swore at me in a degrading way...
I tried to keep calm ..I really did but it just came over me, I hit the brakes got out and balled him out in every foul derogtory male name I could think of. I called him all kinds of stupid inadequate illegitamate person I questioned his parentage and his manhood... He just stood there gobsmacked... Then I heard a giggle and turned to see another guy on a ladder who had witnessed it all enjoying a good laugh...
Cassie, I think we all "lose" it sometimes. Annoying things keep happening and building up and you finally have had enough. I really don't blame you. In Florida i try not to let it happen though. There are too many people here that will do just about anything so i keep it in. You hear of people pulling guns out for road rage and even simple disagreements. It's better to hold it in and not let it get out of control.

Not my finest hour but it felt good.
Sometimes we CAN be proud, and happy, even though we don't want to.
I would have loved to have done that.

I was telling my daughter a similar, but milder traffic altercation I had some years ago when I was busier.
Picture a typical, joe-cool, teenager, sauntering across the road to college. He is far enough away that you can easily see him, but you will have to slow down, as he is way too cool to speed up, as his friends may be watching.
When I see them doing that, I put my hand on the horn, and I leave it there.
I watch the kids emotions, based on my own experience, and having had teenagers.
Reactions while sauntering 1. Pfff it's a middle aged, middle class woman in a boring car. She's tooting - so what? 2. Now everybody can see me ignoring the silly bitch 3. Everybody's looking now 4. Everybody's looking now 5. You can stop that now, i get the picture 6. Ok, ok, I will speed up, and keep my head down, pretending that no-one is laughing at me
Boys or girls, they act in just the same way.
So, yes, I feel bad that I sort of enjoy that........

There is a college near here and all the kids have to cross the main road to get to it. About once or twice a month one of them gets hit by a car. The reason is because they come out of the side street on bikes and ride straight out across the main road. We have seen so many near misses it makes your heart leap up into your throat. So yes if I see any of them coming or even lurking near the crossing I hoot just to be on the safe side.
