I suppose from my childhood the 60's although I grew up with Bolly Olly ( I couldnt say Buddy Holly) the beatles Elvis and a lot of rock and roll but also a lot of old school reggae living in London there were lots of people who had come over in the 50's and they had real happy music with them..
My turn was the 80's.. dancing all night at clubs in London, the Hammersmith Palais, was our local.. We would go to a bikers pub that played all the old school rock and roll then at chucking out time walk down to the palais and spend the rest of the night dancing to chart toppers of the day.
I like 'now' music best. My current favourite is Paloma Faith.
But, as little kid in the 60's, that music was the best. Of course growing up in the 70's was the best music. But then there was the 80's and that was the best. Of course, let's not forget the best that was the 90's. Of course then we had the 0's, that music was the best. Though the 10's were just the best.

Sorry, what was the question again?
Do I take it that you like just about everything....

Not at all. I am just saying that I try to avoid pigeonholing myself. There is so much music around at any time. Why should I keep harking back to some rose tinted previous life?

Cherry, I can't argue with that. Until I have been on this forum and the old WOF I never listened to much of anything but the oldies. Since then I have expanded what i listen to and I am also hooked on Paloma faith thanks to you.
I agree.. the 90s did have a lot of good music, especially some of the rock music. I also like music from before then... and after ;p I don't keep up with what music is out anymore because it has been kind of disappointing in comparison, but there are still some very talented artists out there.

I know what you mean, and I've had this conversation with people before.
in 50 years time, no one is going to look back and say... remember lady gaga?. she was a real icon!. sure, she is, but she's nothing compared to michael jackson, or elvis, or the beatles.. I guess what I'm saying is: we're a diffrent era now. I don't think anyone from the current decade would have that kind of legacy. even little mix and one direction- sure they're big now and talked about, but give it a few years..
may be a question for another thread: who do we think from the current era would have a legacy as big as MJ
A_muppet, you should come round and see my music collection
I have over 2000 songs covering everything from abba to rita aura and everything in between.. it truly is a treasure trove of hits- and I try to make time each day to play my playlist, or some of it.. it's so big and it's always updated

I was actually surprised that Lady Gaga has a pretty great singing voice with some of her live/acoustic videos. I don't really listen to her, though.
Bad Romance was the song by her that I found catchy, but it's not something I'd find memorable way down the road. It does not give me the same feeling as the songs that I will always remember and want to listen to again and again.

I think she can be a pretty good actress too as in American Horror Story.

I think some of her songs are amazing. Bad Romance was a complete wall of sound, and quite unique.
Telephone was artfully done without a single note or tone, out of place.

Every decade including and since the 50's has something that I like. I'll go through phases of preferring one decade over another, but there's a bit of music from each one that works for me!
