I watched a romance movie last night recently recorded from a Canadian channel. I'll have to check if it's available anywhere else, but I recognised the main actress and actually waited till the end of the movie to check for her on IMDB! (I'm usually watching with phone/tablet handy just for that reason!) She had been on a Canadian show I liked back in 2011-2014, so I was glad to see her again, like an old friend. Her name is Lauren Lee Smith, and she's from Vancouver, so kinda close to home!
The movie itself (The Wedding Ring, from this year) wasn't the worst in its category of TV movie, but it wasn't quite the most brilliant. So far that honour goes to 2019's Made For You with Love (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9760234/). Of course, there was a lot of good conversation about food in the new movie, and I appreciated that. LOL
I just watched a documentary on HBO Max about Heaven's Gate. I knew about it but this went into details that I never knew. It's really hard to believe that intelligent people can get wrapped up into something like this to the point that they will take their own lives.

The branch davidians, order of the solar temple, manson family, the peoples temple... Faith or belief made victims of all of them..

I like watching documentaries on cults... it's so bizarre to imagine so many people falling for the same thing! I don't have HBO, though, but Netflix has some that are on my list.
I was just mentioning last night how weird it is when intelligent people fall for things that you'd think is not very intelligent. Such as some smart people falling for Qanon stuff that normally would probably think people were crazy for thinking those things. There's documentaries on it that I haven't watched yet.
I don't want to derail the thread too much, but is there any religion in which god is a good guy, and benevolent enough not to want to crack down on ordinary people who just don't think he exists?
Obviously I don't believe in god, but it is hard to come even close to believing in something which paints itself as so unreasonable.
If I can forgive most anything, eventually, why can't one of the gods?

You need to watch The Righteous Gemstones, you will love it.

Discovered an old movie, "Peter's Friends". Emma Thompson played one "friend". She has an interesting and kind face, somewhat like the characters in a Dr. Suess book.
Seems "The Big Chill" (never watched it) is an earlier American version.
I'm still making my way through Blacklist... There are some subplots that annoy me, though lol too much wishy washy, back and forth stuff at times... Give it a rest! But I still like it otherwise.

I'll finish watching Flash Gordon (from the 80's sci-fi collection I got) but it's not that great as a superhero movie, IMO. I did think that Battlestar Galactica (in the same collection, though it's from 1978) was good for its time period. I may just finish watching the 2000's BG miniseries, though it was quite a lot darker plotwise. I applaud their changes for Starbuck in that miniseries, especially once I had seen the actress play Bo Katan in The Mandalorian.
I forgot yesterday that I had meant to avoid many of the Star Trek series I own, just for family watching though - I'm not ready for the youngest to be tempted to parrot back any profanity, plus the serious edge in many of the episodes isn't a good fit for him, anyway. I thought we'd stick to the original or the 70's animated series until Star Trek Prodigy starts... And then someone mentioned checking out a 7th season episode of Deep Space Nine, which was definitely more serious because of the war happening throughout a season or two. It wasn't a scarring experience, I'm sure, for the youngest, but oops! on my part for neglecting to steer them towards something else. Gotta switch to Disney+ for family entertainment, I think, rather than video on demand through our TV provider...

Star Trek had been genius. I LOVE that programme.
I am completely fascinated by space travel and technology. I could talk for hours about the subject, but needless to say, I find every episode of Star Trek clever and enjoyable.
My favourite character does have to be Data. He is mysterious yet so honest. A great, great character.
Oh I did watch Malignant. Creepy is a good word for it, also bizarre and quite gorey. Would I recommend this movie. A definite yes if you like horror, I loved it. But just remember, there is much in horror that I don't like lol.

I checked out Doogie Kamealoha in Disney+. Fun! But not family fare for us. I'm not ready to explain frontal grinding just because the writers want to have a character or two say it! Oy. Also, my kids might not enjoy medical shows like I have done for years...
Also tried Marvel's What If. Interesting concept for a show!
At OH's request we watched an Irish comedy last night.. Called Hard times and starring Linda Hamilton ( terminator). Its a lot of Irish swearing and those not familiar with the accent might need subtitles but it was a good laugh.
A group of daft Irish villagers decide to rob a shipment of drugs from an American drug company ,,the heist turns out to be viagra....
It was very similar to the Scottish based film Whisky Galore

A friend who watched that series said that it was somewhat random as well. But looks like it's only for comedy anyway, so that's fine. Still need to watch Loki, and now Hawkeye is getting his own series! So many things to watch these days lol.
