I am finally purchasing a Fitbit. I am getting one with a HR monitor on it to better keep track of my heart. I plan on using it with the Cardiogram app, too... supposedly it can help detect atrial fibrillation and such, and I am at an increased risk of this due to my health issues, so I feel it would be good to stay on top of it. I have been having a lot more palpitations and strange events with my heart lately, so I want to kind of keep track of it and see if I can make connections to anything I am eating or if it's when I forget to take certain supplements.
I have also wondered if I have sleep apnea, and I read it might be able to pick up on that as well. Although, I have been sleeping almost sitting up lately due to my back issues, and I feel I do sleep (and breathe) better this way as opposed to lying down. I do wonder why that is... I do also have a goiter, and I wonder if sometimes I can't breathe as well due to it, especially if lying down and applying more pressure to my neck.
So yeah... do any of you use anything like this? I will post more information once I start using mine... I should receive it in a few days!
I dont use one but Im interested to see if its any good...
I had a scare this week OH has a pulse /oxygen meter to check his flow (lung problems) he clipped it onto me as I was dozing in the chair and quickly shook me awake.. My heart rate was down to 35 although my oxygen was 99%. Once awake my heart picked up to 65..
They are having sales right now... at least on the US version of the site. I am getting the very cheapest one that also has the HR on it! It is the Inspire HR... it was I think $40 cheaper than normal. It still has a lot of functionality to it compared to the more pricey ones, so I think it will be good enough for what I want it for. Maybe even for most of what you'd all want it for, too.
You have to be careful which one you choose because they have the inspire and inspire HR listed together, and you choose the version when you choose the color, so don't get the one without the heart rate by accident!

Wow, that is pretty low of a heart rate. I know it can be normal for it to drop when sleeping, though.. but that might be even lower than normal. I read the other day some get down to around 40... so who knows, maybe it could be normal. Your resting heart rate otherwise is still kind of low, too.. but can be normal. My mom has a naturally lower heart rate, but she is also really into exercising often... when mine goes too low or too high it's usually because of my thyroid!

I am not keen on how tight you have to fit them to make them work...

I have low blood pressure too..and graves disease which means my thyroid has had the radioactive treatment and is now kaput ! Ive always had a fairly slow heart rate but this was enough to scare OH...
We do walk a lot but Im no athlete..
I wake up every morning and doctors aren't worried so I dont think its a problem..

I have Graves', too. I still just take methimazole daily. I was recently being overmedicated and have lowered my dosage.
Are you hypo right now? Maybe you need more replacement thyroid?

I wish... Every doctor Ive seen says either Im functioning at normal levels ..god I hate that sentence.. or they suggest taking less. I tried that last year and could barly get out of bed in the mornings. I told the doctor I didnt realise there was a stage past exhaustion but I had reached it with the lower dose.
My weight has been stable for the last 15 years or so its not what I would like but...
My hair is back to normal. ie not falling out.
I can stay awake ...most of the time.
This about as good as it gets. But anyone who says that treatment of thyroid problems is easy or simple is having a laugh. Doctors tried treating mine with Thiamazol but I had severe reactions to it including loss of taste and skin allergies that have never really gone away. So RAI treatment was the last resort.

Do you read your levels? My doctors would always tell me I was in range... and then when I look at them myself I am practically hyper or hypo! I mean, why do they want me to wait for it to actually be out of range to tell me this? lol I like catching it early and adjusting my dosage based on the levels and how I feel. even if you are still "normal" it might be too high or too low for you. Based on your symptoms... I don't know, it might be too low for you?
I have no idea what levels I feel best with... I just know I always feel like crap lol my symptoms are pretty similar in either direction aside from the HR being low or high. Right now I was on the verge of being hypo. My doctor almost wanted to completely take me off my medication instead of adjusting the dosage (only the TSH was high actually with T4 almost too low), and I told her NO. Instead we split my dosage, and the TSH dropped to normal, and my T4 is going up. Doctors just don't seem to know how to treat thyroid diseases properly... I hear this all the time from others.
Either way.. I hope the Fitbit will kind of help me catch if things are changing in my body earlier on so I may rush in for some blood work and adjust my medications sooner.

I am not keen on how tight you have to fit them to make them work...
Just got it in today. It says to wear it loose enough to slide up and down your wrist when not exercising, then you must tighten it while exercising. It seems to be having a pretty good reading on random spots on my arm, and the little heart icon beats with my pulse, so I am guessing it is accurate.
My HR doesn't seem to be stable.. it is going from 74 to 84 every couple of minutes lol although, when I had an EKG last they did say I had sinus arrhythmia (respiratory I think). My heart rate noticeably changes in pretty large increments with inhalation and exhalation.

Andreas was fairly cheap. That probably made all the difference. Actually she no longer wears it. That real estate on her wrist is now taken up by a Pokemon Gotcha.
So, I put it on yesterday... and I might have had 1 glitch in readings so far already lol it showed my heart rate nearly at 200 for 2 minutes while I was just sitting at my computer. I think I would have noticed that. My guess is that it accidentally was counting 2-3 of my beats together. Or even half of my bpm. I was averaging around the 70s mostly at the time before it happened.
I wore it through the entire night. It shows my heart spiking to in the low 90s and upper 80s here and there. I was looking at the sleep chart and it might coincide with my REM sleep and light sleep mostly (either that or I have mild sleep apnea). Then it showed me going in the 50s only at two points the entire night for not very long even... maybe that was my very deep sleep stages. It shows I was in a deep sleep for around 1.5 hours. Now I want to look up how long we should typically be in each stage to see if I'm normal lol it gave me a score of 86 for my sleep. My heart rate mostly was in the 60s and 70s the entire night, so I guess that is good...

Sounds like money well spent.
It's good to get an idea of what my normal should be for sure... then I can actually spot when something is worth undergoing some tests for. What I am worried about is the possibility of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation... that can be even harder to spot. I have some strange episodes at times that concern me, so now I will have a way to keep better track of it and maybe be able to show it to my physician.
Be sure you wear it properly. I think some of my poor/glitchy readings was having it a little too close to my wrist bone at the time.... I think when I was flexing my wrist or moving my arms too much might be when it randomly shows a spike. I didn't have it too loose, but sometimes I moved it to the wrong spot for reading the HR I guess ;p I will see if it does it anymore now that I have it in a better location.

The doctors will just love that.
I know they complain about 'us' reading about ailments on the internet, just think how happy they will be when we turn up with charts....

Thank you Heather. I'll be sure to try to wear it correctly at least and go from there.

Right... like they aren't reading about them? LOL I can read too you know!
I had a friend who was a dietician, she hated people coming in with pages torn out of magazines lol
Well, I guess it could depend on the magazine lol if it's articles written by specialists and dieticians, then that could be fine, right?... if it's just some random person talking about losing weight with an unhealthy diet, then I could see a problem for sure. Fad diets can be dangerous sometimes.
The sleep tracking on Fitbit is kind of fun... it shows the exact moment I went from dreaming to being woken up by thunder lol I can also spot the time based on my heart rate almost going to 100.
I noticed my heart rate didn't get as low last night.. it only dipped to around 60 briefly once. The others nights it happened multiple times. I wonder if this will be a sign of me needing to adjust my medications again.
By the way, I had no glitches yesterday, and I wore my Fitbit in the same spot all day pretty much.. further from any bones or wrist flexion. That seems to have done the trick for now.
