I just value my middle class lifestyle and fear solar and wind power would eliminate it.
I think you're safe. If you want to maintain your lifestyle, then you'd probably want us to continue to protect the environment a bit more =p We're kind of on an unsustainable path as it is, so these changes are for preservation of the human race long-term. Look at some other countries where the pollution is out of control because of not enough regulations or protections and using energy sources that contribute to more pollution... they have to wear masks any time they leave the house. We had some areas in our own country that were that bad in the past until we made changes, so we don't want to return to that either.
Anyone fighting against these type of advancements are only standing in the way of what the future will be regardless.... delaying the inevitable. It's mostly people who want to milk money out of everything else first before they want us to move along. We always have greedy and selfish people who try to hinder our progress, and they mislead the public as long as it suits them.

I care about the planet, I just think mankind's planetary effects, if any, are so minor in comparison to those of the sun. The Earth warmed immensely ending the ice-age and all this prior to the industrial revolution.
But I also care about people. But I do know many true environmentalists believe famine a good thing.

Here is where I'm at. I have no opposition to solar and wind power research or usage as a supplement to gas, coal, oil and nuclear. However, the goal to use solar and wind entirely as a replacement seems vastly too costly. There would have to be exemptions.

This is an easy one.
3 out of the 4 will be gone. They need replacing, and if we can spread their use out, we will be better for it.

I think it will even out eventually. As with all things, it can be more expensive initially, and then we improve upon things and make it more widespread, and then the cost decreases. It will also create new jobs, so people who work in the similar industries might make a transition over there if that is something that interests them. It's not going to be a very quick process, so there is plenty of time for adjustments and such.
I know for coal workers especially, this will be something much more healthy for them to do. Those lung diseases are no joke!
Us humans are doing a lot of harm to the planet, and we are accelerating even natural processes. We're not the only cause of the warming of the planet, of course, but we are not helping. That is what this is all about really.. slowing down what we're contributing to buy us more time. Who knows what we'll come up with eventually.. maybe we can help reverse some of the damage as well. I have seen some pretty neat ideas!
Hm, well here's a blog from a freight website with good ideas. There are electric locomotives and electric trucks that can be used for transport already. Can use solar power, too.
I think we'll have technology for everything to be more 'green friendly' eventually. Some will take longer than others to come about, I'm sure. I have even heard about batteries that could potentially last forever, and that would be good if they can get that figured out ;p
A lot of this is many years away and will be a gradual change... just have to plan for the future if we want there to be a future for generations to come.
I must admit that currently I could not do electric car. I drive 90 minutes to where I work. I then drive around there for about 40 miles, before returning. My only option would be to park up next to a charger and sot there waiting, during the day.

Thats an inhibiting factor for a lot of people right now.

A mechanized military would also need to be exempted I think. I can't imagine submarine, military aircraft or naval aircraft carriers being powered sufficiently with batteries or wind power.
On the flip side is tourism. Could states such as Hawaii or Alaska survive economically without tourism? Wonder what a fresh pineapple will cost if transport is by schooner?
There are also hybrids! That would still be an improvement, but not as difficult to keep up with if you can't switch entirely to electric and such. That might be what a lot of the transport-type vehicles could do better with until technology improves more. I'm just always optimistic when it comes to technology and science =p I mean, look at how far we have come already.
Thats definitely a breakthrough but now they would have to work out all the logistics; manufacturing cost, storage and transportation. And they would need to address the fact that hydrogen is very explosive and find an economical way to make it more stable on a large scale. I'm not saying that it can't be done though.
