I love dogs myself but have never wanted to go out to work and leave a dog by itself. I did consider having one while I was travelling with work but never did. Really I spend so much time with different things that I never feel I have time for one. One day maybe :/
Ive had dogs around me all my life they are like a right arm.. Im lost without them. I love dogs and cats but the owners drive me mad..
They take on an animal and then dont take responsibilty. Dont pick up after the dogs or make sure the animal is kept healthy, they let them roam in very dangerous places and seem to think that their ego or status can be bettered by owning a particular breed/type
Cat owners are worse often the laziest people on the planet saying they own a pet yet taking absolutly no care of it beyond putting down a bowl of food, the poor cats are left to roam the streets day and night fouling other peoples gardens killing the wildlife and falling victim to cars. At that point the owner will wail oh poor kitty I loved him/her so much and then promptly get another one and do the same.
I know not all owners are like this but sadly too many are. you need more paperwork to own a car , a boat or even a moped than you do to take ownership of another living being.. Isnt it sad that we put more value on an object than on a life?

I would never do that with my kitties. I do so much with them everyday and they are two of my best friends. My kitties are indoor ones, they get to go out on the lanai but can't wander. there are too many things around here that can. hurt them.

I love dogs, too. I feel happy when around dogs: and animals in general. In fact, I absolutely love animals. I do not have any pets, however. But maybe one-day I will.
But that's the way the world is, James: if you don't look like you deserve that desk, you're not going to get that desk.

Apart from all the exotics my daughter also has 4 kitties Stewie Dumpling, Polly and Sybil.. They have never been outside ever. They have the run of the downstairs a seris of cat climbing baskets and two huge cat trees that go up each side of the bay window and link over the top via a rope walkway..
They are super fit and healthy happy and content...
Plus they are safe .... in the past 7 years the neighbour has had three kitties killed on the road right outside the house.

It sounds like they have everything a kitty could want.
It seems that the lock down love of dogs is coming to an end. In the past month Dutch authorities say they have seen more dogs handed in to rescue centres than in the same period last year. There are also more dogs being offered for rehoming on marketplace websites. But animal charities are warning that many of these dogs have been badly bred in the first place and then have not been to any kind of training course so they often have behavioral problems.
While humans will celebrate the end of regulations and the return to their ' normal' lifestyle the animals who were adopted to keep them company and prevent their depression will now be cast aside like old rag.

Insert your own swear word for these selfish ********
Shame on every one of them. Not just the profiteers, but those who did not consider the dog's life.

That's so wrong. What's the matter with these people....
People were bored and lonely and wanted a pet... now they are going back to their normal lives and don't feel the need for them anymore. Sick! Pets are not something you just discard when you're done with them.

I agree with this.
Pets are not just for Christmas: they're for life.

My ex was like that. Our kids had lots of pets. But if one died, he would just rush out and get a replacement. He refused to see what was so wrong about it.
I am amazed that most of my kids valued their pets when they became adults. It seems genetics can overcome......
Another problem we are seeing a lot on pet forums are people who claim that because of covid they cant get to vets.
Apperently they cant even email vets but they can join a forum post awful pictures ( one was a pup with a clearly broken leg) and ask for advice on how to fix this at home ie cheaply...
Now I know it hasnt been easy to get into vets and such but in urgent cases they will see animals of course they will or if a person wants advice they can email a vet with photos to get an opinion. Luckily the moderation on the forum I post with are good and refer people to get expert advice.
Again I know vets can be costly and I know Im lucky in having a single practice private vet who will treat first and ask for payment afterwards, he will arrange payment plans if needed and he keeps his costs to a minimum. But its all part of owning a pet, either get them insured or get a saving account and/or a credit card so that if you do need a vet you always have a bit of back up to at least make a down payment on fees.
We never had that problem here. The vets were always open with regular hours. They practiced all the safe protocols and only one person was allowed in with their pet and everyone had to wait in their car for their appointment.

And yet weve seen posters who claim to be in Florida ( among other places both in US and Europe ) saying there is no vet who will see them. As I said its all about not thinking further than the end of their nose.

Same here.
Same here.. Our vets set up an outside waiting area and put up a huge sign with their phone number on it with instructions to phone when you arrived and as soon as a vet was free you would be called in by the side door you then put your dog or cat into a treatment room and walked down the corridor and into the waiting area once you were in the waiting room the vet would go into the treatment room and see the animal if they needed any information they spoke to you from behind a screen.
Then after treatment you left via the front door so not getting anywhere near the waiting area.
But just today there is someone in the dog forum giving a whole list of things that's wrong with their dog bedridden , in pain, walking in circles can't poop, but I can't get to a vet as anybody got any ideas what I can do?.
I feel like saying go outside and run as fast as you can head first into a brick wall maybe it will knock some sense into you.

The only reason I can see why someone in the US cannot bring their pet to the vet is because many people live paycheck to paycheck and cannot take off from work at all. Some may live further from the vet as well, so that can make it more of a challenge. It's not because vets aren't available, though, if anyone claims that... maybe too ashamed to give the real reason why not.

Exactly. I had an appointment the next day. We do have a lot of vets around here so I don't know if they were all open. But I di know there were enough open that there shouldn't of been an issue for anyone.
