Interesting, but I must say I'm confused by these sort of things. Are they really one dimensional or is it just that they are thin filaments stretching in one main direction?

Yeah, I think it just means it is really long, no depth to it.
We watched from our backyard a launch last night from the Kennedy Space center. There is another one this morning around 8. If I remember I will try to see it but the night launches are much better to see.

Dr. Rahjendra Gupta, theoretical physicist at the University of Ottawa claims, based upon the latest data, the universe is perhaps twice as old (26.7-billion years) than commonly believed (current estimate less than 14-billion). Apparently some of astronomy might not be “settled” after all.
If Dr. Gupta is correct as to the universe’s age, then “dark matter” doesn’t need to exist after all. Ouch. Dark matter is supposedly the most common element in the universe, yet so far has gone undetected. Gupta thinks the true age of the universe doesn’t need it to exist at all.
I don’t know the truth as to whether the universe is 14 billion years old and contains dark matter or is much older and doesn’t.
{On another note...} But I sure hope we don’t let Bill Gates block sunlight to Earth just because he thinks he knows what the best average temperature of the planet should be.

Wasn't he the chap who invented Windows to let the light shine on everyone?
Seriously though, I do often wonder whether dark matter is just a fudge factor to cover up their lack of knowlege which they don't like to admit.

Scientists are the experts: they've run loads of experiments and tests. They are highly qualified and super-smart. I don't see how they'd be wrong.

Except that the scientific community rarely agree with each other.
Space is the final enterprise. Humans probably shouldn't ever venture off into the great big black void. The Outer Space Treaty made it so that nations are unable to lay claim to celestial bodies. This doesn't apply to individual corporations. Many corporations, such as SpaceX, invest large sums of money into space exploration. Many of which are owned by billionaires. It is interesting how the latest trend among the higher classes are to escape the planet or acquire bomb shelters on uninhabited islands. Much like the one recently purchased by Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg. If corporations are freely given access to space, they would use this to their advantage to establish new civilizations, and henceforth new nations. There new nations likely wouldn't oblige by civil rights laws established by Earth nations. Mobile Suit Gundam has had numerous series that explores this potential reality. Billionaires need to stay the f**k away from space.

And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.

It all goes the same way of the old empires and the Earth itself. Don't forget that the East India Company was one of the most powerful organisations in the world at one time, and there have been more. Many companies now are far more powerful than many smaller countries. It's just spreading into space. Even down to junk like the Tesla car
