As most of us in this day in age, im bloody skint, i really want to be able to make nice, healthy meals that wont cost £15 per time. A meal in my house has to always have meat in it, we can go 2 days with a meal meat free, this is usually pasta bake, or Mac cheese, but we sometimes put bacon in. My OH is the fussiest person in the world, he likes something but we eat it that often he goes off it, he doesnt really eat fish, or lamb, cheap cuts of meat (yes i know, he pretends to be a snob) no the reason he wont eat cheap cuts of meat or lamb, is the fat and grisstle content, he literally gags if he has a little smidget of fat or grisstle in his mouth. So... he likes to have pasta only once a week but not every week, bcos its 'boring' same with fish. i suppose the easiest thing to make him happy, pork or chicken. we sometimes have gammon steaks with chips and beans but this isnt very healthy is it. we probably have veg once a week, bad i know!!! but now Malakai is almost 1 and will be having 3 meals a day every day and will also be finger feeding, i wont be able to just blend up leftovers from sunday dinner and give him this all week lol
please help thanks

Buying things in bulk often times is cheaper. I buy chicken most of all. I can get 6 chicken breasts (heavy ones) for around $16. That lasts about 4 or 5 days, and it feeds two people.
Always shop where the sales are. Try to keep up with sales by checking online or in flyers, whatever stores have available to you. You will save money that way. For example, I have a store near me that has "buy one get one free" packs of chicken every now and then, so I will go and stock up and keep it in my freezer to last a month or two.
Rice is fairly cheap, too. You can buy a large amount of rice and it can last you for months, plus it can go with everything! Rice and chicken is a simple and pretty healthy meal, and you can season the chicken differently every time to make it seem like a different meal. I even have rice seasonings to change it up a bit lol we have chicken and rice often, but it's cheap and healthy.

Scotch broth, or soup as I prefer to call it. You can buy bacon misshapes very cheap. You cut off the fat. Chop it into little pieces and make it up as a stock. Top up with cheap vegetables, and leave to simmer for a few hours. The bigger the pot the better. If it lacks flavour, throw in some stock cubes or/and some packet soup.
Me and my fiance are grocery shopping masters. We always buy meat in bulk and on sale. We don't pay more than 3.99 a pound for boneless, skinless chicken breats. We look for sales and go to farmer's markets for meat. When there is a sale we stock up. I also never pay more than 4$ for a 700g brick of cheese (you Americans have to figure out that conversion. I have no idea what it is) Anyway, we end up MAYBE spending 400$ a month on groceries, but that is when we buy lots of meat. I bet we average about 300$ a month. We don't eat out to much either, so we save lots of money. And we always cook from scratch.
I'm going to keep posting some of my favorite recopies on a thread I started called "I'm making this tonight" and Pintrest has great ideas as well. Sometimes I even just google what I have in my house to find recipes.
you see we never buy in bul. mainly because i am paid weekly, my OH is paid every 2 weeks, firstly we cant afford to spend £300 on one big shop, bcos we never have that much money coming in esp after bills lol, and plus when we do a big shop all the food is gone in a couple days because we get greedy, and trust me there really is no stopping us. we literally buy by the day, sometimes we have meat in the fridge, but us and OHs sister 7 her boyf take in turns to cook for each other so for example last weekend we went to their house on sat for dinner, then sunday they came to ours, really, this saved us nothing us eating at their house bcos on the sunday we used a small joint of lamb and 2 steaks, that would have done us 2 meals anyway but this is our main social interaction haha. but no it really doesnt help how fussy he is, like yesterday he wanted a chinese, just for some spare ribs, chicken curry and a portion of chips it costs £15, but if i had gone to the supermarket, got ready made meals at £1.50 each we could have had more food there and saved money, but he wont eat ready made meals.

Here we can order a burger "with everything on it". In Australia you would order a burger "with the lot". The lot is burger, lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese, mayo, pickles, pineapple, fried egg, and a bit of vegamite. A large mouth is required to consume it. Cher, do you have something like that in the UK?

My friends and I got them when we were in Aus. and they were sooooo good! I wasn't worried about my weight back then. They were huge so we ended up slicing them into sections.

I don't know lol
Those are not the sort of places I frequent.
I would be surprised if we didn't. If there is one american culture we do well, it is McDonalds and the like.
That looks like two meals on a bun.
Actually, we don't call them buns here, except in american type places, we call them rolls, or baps, or batches, or even cobs.

Heather I thought you might be interested in this Rice Containing Arsenic article.
What I don't like about it is, she didn't quote the studies,
and I don't find that much corroboration.
Arsenic occurs naturally in many foods, including peanut butter, all lobster, and most fish specie.
PPB and PPM dosage samples don't necessarily add up to absolute carcinogens for humans either.
Don't even get me started on the data extrapolation
which can be made to say anything the author wants it to say.
Still, it is interesting to know, although she may be a paid alarmist.

hahahahaha
You are so straight up honest B.
Anything in the fridge is fair game for me.
If I'm depressed or stressed, I can eat an entire 1/2 gallon of IC.
And not gain an ounce???
I can also not eat anything for 3 days and lose 5 pounds if I want.

Yep, it's true that there is arsenic in the rice. Sucks to be gluten free sometimes. At least many of the products don't only have rice in it.. they use corn and potato, too. So it's a bit less than eating a bowl of rice, I guess...
Regardless, brown rice is still healthy for you, but booooo arsenic! =p

Arsenic in lobster? I know people in New England and don't believe that they will cut back on their lobstah rolls. The more I hear about foods that are unhealthy, the less I want to hear.
