Park West Gallery used to come out here every year and I always got invitation for private preview, they have not come out for two years now. I got a letter saying they might be out again next year.

Annie, most of the lithographs and serigraphs that i have are from Park West Galleries.
I think I am Picasso illiterate because, while the whole world adores him and thinks he is a genius, I think he is an art con man.
I'm not a great fan either.
I am glad I am not the only one Cassie, I remember a few years ago, my husband made me get out of bed one morning when we were in Paris to go to the Picasso museum. I complained to him that I would rather stay in bed watching TV than having to see these so-called materpieces, the people next to us looked at me like I just came out of cave.

Similar is Van Gogh. Ive been to the museum in Amsterdam a couple of times because of visitors who wanted to see it. But seeing him having painted a tree from 20 angles or the potato eaters, which really looks like that old joke about painting a black cat in a coal cellar didnt thrill me.
Of course there are some paintings I really did like and Picasso is the same but not all the paintings are good.. Not even 50% are paintings I would consider genius.
Like many artists I feel the genius is in convincing others that these are special and worthy of huge price tags.
The art world reminds me of the story of the emperors new clothes. We all know what we see but do we dare tell the truth?

I am not keen on Picasso either but do like Dali's works to some extent. Van Gogh is just rough to me. I prefer Vermeer or similar.
While we are on the subject - I was amused one day as I glanced at a Lowry in our local art gallery and actually thought that some hooligan had daubed a figure on it with a felt tip. They hadn't but, closeup, it looked that bad and someone had. At a distance though it fitted in well. I'm not sure that this was the one but it is shown here:
Now Lowry I like, his paintings while simple create an atmosphere and snapshot of the every day life, the way the figures are slightly bent over as they carry the weight of working class life on their shoulders.. Its not just a painting its a social history lesson.

Klimt's the kiss always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up..
its supposed to be passionate lovers embraced in a kiss but to me it looks like a woman being forced to do something she doesnt want to, the tilt of her head the way his hand are holding her head forcing it toward his. Her one hand seemingly trying to get his away from her throat.
Again I seem to be alone in this view but its a painting that doesnt sit right with me..
I am not keen on Klimt either. I recently found a book of his paintings in our local book exchange but, after a brief look through, I soon returned it. No, don't get me wrong on that. I like Lowry's pictures and would have one on the wall. There is lots of interest and his figures have character. I have tried to imitate his style but found it more complicated than it looks.
In the main I prefer more classical styles although there are some good artists around today though. I just don't go for piles of bricks or most abstract things.
