Mine is relatively cheap, too. But we have splurged on more pricey ice wines before for special occasions.. they sure are good, though lol a great dessert wine.
Back when I was 17 I had a rough relationship with alcohol. Once I learned I had a stopping point, I was ok. Went through a period where I didn't drink at all. Then I'd have a little something here & there. Now, I mainly have a drink or two to relax. Nothing serious. Just a touch of Crown in Coke or I bought wine coolers yesterday. I don't care for wine. But the wine coolers are good. I used to be able to "take it or leave it" but, as I get older & life gets a little more annoying, I find it helps me to chill out. I definitely spend more in these latter years than I used to. I don't want to give it up now. I enjoy it. Sometimes I drink every day. Sometimes it's weeks. Depends on what's going on & how I feel.
California, hands down best wine in the world, price and quality.
I'm still going with Bordeaux as the best wines in the world.
Actually,Paul Pontallier, the Managing Director at Chateau Margaux, one of the best known Bordeaux producers, was a family friend. I remember how intimidated he was of California wine. He died about five years ago but the last time we met at my cousin's birthday party in Nice, he mentioned California wines outperformed all three major Bordeaux producers in mid 1970s and continue to be in fierce competition since then. The competition was judged by French judges panel.

Annie, I don't doubt the quality of California wines. Its probably more that I am set in my ways lol...

I am not surprise Karen, Bordeaux wine is very famous, one of the best in the world.
Whenever I have friends over for dinner, most of my local friends will go for the French and Italian wine and most of my foreign friends will go for local wine.

Annie, I really do enjoy good wine and even though I lean toward Bordeaux, I do enjoy wines from just about everywhere in the world.
I am completely teetotal. I eat one Mon Cherie (chocolate covered cherry with a hint of cherry liqueur), and I get tipsy. LOL The reason I don't drink alcohol is because a) I don't like the smell and taste of most alcoholic beverages and b) because I used to suffer a lot from migraines, and alcohol only made it worse.
I used to drink wine and Baileys (always loved coffee liqueur) when I was younger, but haven't had a drop in over 20 years. I don't miss it, and when I go out with my husband, I order a Coke while he orders wine for himself. I have long ago given up explaining myself to others, who automatically think that the reason I don't drink is because I am an alcoholic.

LOL! I drank a whole pot of coffee one day using Bailey's as a creamer.
OH says he needs a drink if Im driving ! I say ..He is an awful passenger. So he drinks I drive or rather we did when we were still social.
But I spent about 20 years pretending to be on medication because even when you say youre driving people will try to foist drinks onto you Ive even heard someone telling the host to "slip a voddy in she wont notice"...when I had asked for orange juice.
So saying 'sorry Id love one but Im on medication so I cant' got peoples sympathy and they left me alone.
Now days OH brews his own beer , stout mainly and makes his own red wine.. The wine is really good its strong though and after two glasses you just go to sleep , no additives though so no headaches.
In winter I do drink a glass of baileys as an alternative to a pudding..
But Im happy with fizzy water or a cup of tea drink doesnt really matter to me and seeing other peoples behaviour when they are drunk is the biggest turn off of all.

When we were kids, my brother and I made some home brew beer. We hid it in the loft so my parents wouldn't find out.
The very first morning we were woken up by a loud hissing noise coming from the loft. Im leaped out of bed and shot up the loft. It was fine. When we came down, I was called through to explain why I was in the loft. It turned out my dad had surprised my mum with a tea maker. That was the noise.
