Since I used a Wiki for this first link for simplicity I cannot vouch for accuracy.

This one includes rates by gender which is very interesting.

I did do some comparisons with other studies and did not see any major distinctions.

This second link from UNESCO I find very interesting bc it shows correlations between country wealth (by GDP) and literacy.

It's a little unwieldy but worth the study.

In HS I volunteered for one of those "Learn to Read" programs

that included some phonics for other kids, not always younger.

I was the one that really learned the most.

The older the person the harder it is to learn that particular skill.

Yet I've tutored senior citizens advanced math. even calculus, and had really good luck.

If they are a poor reader by 5th grade their progress was hard to measure.

Lacking those early fundamental reading skills is serious.

That caught me by surprise.

Changing demographics.

I was a Navy brat when I lived in New England and the Bruins (hockey team) had a player named Phil Esposito years before. My Dad told me that cars had a bumper sticker that said "God Saves, but Espo scores on the rebound!" Creativity is good.
