I have worked in the IT, Non-Profit, Medical, Entertainment fields. I even worked for one of those scary government organizations that I can't talk about.
In my last "professional" job, I was the Executive Director a non-profit organization based on the West Coast of the US.
I currently get most of my income from writing and I am a semi-pro poker player.
I plan on taking one of the biggest risks in my life soon by starting my own company that will be working in the Entertainment and Arts arena.
Semi pro poker player? We used to play for pennies once a week at work at lunchtime, it genuinely felt quite serious, and there was usually an agressive current not far below the surface, which could turn to hate. That did dissolve once the game ended, when it dawned that you had only actually lost 75p but it did give us a little idea of the stress levels you must go through.

How do you cope with that?
The trick for me is to think of the chips as chips and not money. I just give them a value based on how many I have. I play the same if its a penny game or a £5000 game. Its just chips not dosh. Did that make sense?
